It is because there are a lot of drivers in BC that have an international licence, and or just lack the minimum required brain cells to function in normal daily living.
I'm not surprised someone would be asking this question, considering how a lot of drivers in East Asian countries have a habit of tailgating ambulances to speed through traffic.
its always asian drivers. this is not stereotyping, from my personal experience, when i check the driver, its always asians that make ridiculous mistakes.
I also noticed that the amount of people who dont let you in for lane change turn signals have increased. Before, the common reaction was to slow down and let them in; Now, its speed up and get behind me.

I can't comment on whether it is a race thing when it comes to cars letting people change lanes, but when it comes to yielding to Emergency vehicles, Asian drivers definitely don't know what the heck to do. As I said in my previous post, It is probably because they are driving with a foreign licence.

all the time people do this to me. i dont get why people think it is a good idea to accelerate into the blindspot of a car looking to merge into your lane, especially while on a highway.

Thank you!!!! Someone else has also made the same observation I have made within the last decade.
I don't know why some people treat my "lane change signal" as a cue for them to speed up and close the gap.
Mind you, I only initiate my lane change sequence because I see there's a safe gap to change; meaning that I'm only signalling to you out of courtesy when I could very well cut in front of you without causing an accident.
This reminds me of the scene in Die Hard With A Vengeance when they made a bogus 911 call so that they can chase the responding ambulance in order to beat downtown traffic.
On a related note, I was once caught in heavy traffic on Burrard and ended up behind an ambulance with its lights and sirens on trying to get to St. Pauls after letting it go by. But because traffic was moving like 5km/h, I ended up following it for 2 blocks with both of us both trapped in the slow lane until it made it to the hospital. I did let those who pulled over to let the ambulance by in front of me but we all ended up being pulled along by the ambulance like a slow moving train... is that legal?

I always speed up on people that signal to try to change lanes without planning ahead being selfish screwing up the flow of traffic. I notice more of those types too.

I ONLY do this if theres a line for an exit/onramp and idiots who dont want to wait in line like the rest of the normal people and try to squeeze in last minute.. PISSES me off... we are all in a hurry so WAIT in the damn F@#$ing lineup...

Yea i remember even just 5 years back, not a lot of people did this and people would always be courteous and let people in, giving the benefit of doubt. Now, so many people do it and obviously too. Letting a car or 5 in ahead of you really doesnt make a lot of time difference but it's really annoying and its better to teach them a lesson by blocking them off. It's also dangerous that they do this.

Actually you are stereotyping. Just because from all your past experience which always have been asian drivers, doesn't mean it's always them.
I agree with how people will increase their speed when you signal for lane change. But if there is a decent gap between you and the car next to you, why does it matter even if the driver speed up? you signaled, then you lane changed, by the time you complete your lane change, the driver wouldn't have caught up to you unless there were barely any space and you tried to lane change, then that's your problem.
