That's what the shifter is for....... it jams the laser signal, so nothing shows up.

The amount of laser out there is still minimal. At least that's what I'm experiencing. I travel from North Burnaby to the Fraser Valley every day and the only laser I get is when I get tagged by TREO after crossing the Port Mann.

I also listen to traffic radio for radar/laser traps. Other than that, I pray to allah a stray beam or reflection hits me. When laser goes off on the detector, it gives the most horrible sound.

Other people have tried coating their license plates with all kinds of stuff. When it comes down to it, there is no getting away from laser.

If and when laser is set up everywhere, I will get a jammer.

From my experience Driving back and fourth from Surrey to Vancouver regulory,99.9% of the time I encounter KA band; which any decent radar detector will pick up. I run laser interceptor system... Arguably the best laser shifting system in the market and I have yet to have encounter lidar in the 6
Months that I've had the system installed. They really only use laser for speed traps in certain areas. I have only ever been hit once with laser and that was in west Vancouver.

And get the 9500ix save your self from annoying false signals with the GPS... Who the fuck cares if the radar is coming from the back or front on a V1? "Oh radar coming from the back, I don't need to slow down because it's coming from
Behind..." Bitch pls

I'll chime in. I have experiences with both detectors. I have had a 9500ix the past 3 years, and am currently using the Valentine One and I've even used BOTH driving down to Vegas (negating the whole omg using 2 at the same time reduces range) They both GENERALLY work the exact same minus their own patented features or gizmos that help sell the product. Its like the whole Android vs iPhone debate. Both are suited to a different consumer.

Yes the 9500ix has GPS, and it is an overall quieter detector. I swore by it and laughed at the V1 guys who swore by their arrows. Then when I buckled down, it got more obvious. All the gizmos kind of really water down the product. How often do you really need to know where the red light cameras are. If you blow red lights a lot sure, I used it more of an alerting tool to be more careful around an intersection. Sure I was happy it had it but I didn't buy a radar detector to let me know where the spots were. K band got so annoying I ended up muting it and only ran KA and L. The 9500ix is like an iPhone, easy to use and foolproof. If my parents were to go on a long road trip. I'd give them this and leave it on Auto. Its that easy. It speaks "KA Band" out loud and the visual indicators are easy to spot. Its quieter and falses less and really only goes off when a K or KA band is prominent and deadly. Defender database is kind of a joke. Its just an update of red light cameras and MAYBE the odd speed trap AREA that we all seem to know of around the GVA. Escort LIVE is where its at but whos going to pay yearly for that.

I sold mine last month and got a newer 3.893 model. First time driving home with it, its goddamn noisy. Picking up every single K wave that floats around. The average motorist is going to hate this thing but thats the point of the V1. Its noisy because its sensitive. Sensitivity is your friend when you want a radar detector. You don't get a guard dog thats loud only when it THINKS someones a threat. You want something that goes off every time at the hint of anything that could be a threat. The V1 leaves the user up to the task of "filtering" results. That way theres no misconceptions when the Escort filters something at the wrong time. The V1 is like an Android, more customizable and more features but WAY harder to set up properly. Instead of just removing K band entirely from the alert bands, I can set it up so it only beeps lightly to maybe 50% in strength, then have it blare 100% when things get serious. The 9500ix is either on or off. The menu system in a V1 is more complex but thats what I'm getting at. Its not for the average consumer that just wants to run and gun. Look at the following customizing charts/cards that both companies give.

Escort 9500ix:

Valentine 1:

*See what I mean about the ability to customize

Both detectors are tailored to 2 very different clients. In the real world, they really all perform the same. The Redline and Max have 3 antennas (2 front 1 rear) vs the 9500ix and V1s 2 (1 front 1 rear). But the reports these days show the latest V1 still up there. Its nearly impossible to test them quantitatively so the online reviews tend to be all over the place. Remember, you never want to mute an entire band (I did this with my 9500ix) because all it takes is one LEO (law enforcement officer) to pick up the crummy bike or cruiser with the old K band gun in it and shoot you coming down Marine Drive. I've never seen K band guns used in Vancouver, but thats not to say some older legacy guns still get used in the US.

I personally went with the V1 cause I drive a lot and I'm comfortable setting the thing up to fit my needs and subconsciously mute out the K bands while I drive. My passengers however can't stand how noisy it is. Im not bashing either or or swaying anyone to one side. I'm trying to give real life examples to help you pick the one that suits your needs. In the REAL REAL world, pb.kidz is right. A Laser Interceptor teamed up with your detector of choice is the TRUE solution to any defense system. The LI is undisputed in laser jamming, it uses laser diodes to combat the lasers hitting it so when it reflects off your car, the gun gets a confusing slew of laser beams hitting it back effectively jamming the system. Cheaper systems (Yes the Escort ZR4 is FAR inferior to the LI) use LED type diodes to imitate lasers trying to replicate the laser waves but using actual laser diodes are far superior.

I bought the red 9500i 3 years ago and only got one ticket, that was because i was coming down a steep slope and didn't brake in time when i heard it beep. Pay $250 at the time and has probably save me from at least dozen of tickets over the 3 year.

Got a new car recently for almost 3 months. Lost the OEM power cord to the 9500i because i had it invisiblecord to previous's car rearview mirror and the new car has no power to the rearview mirror. Already got nail with a ticket.

Laser requires the officer to actually stand somewhere with the gun, i've notice that doesn't really happen that often during the time where I would go a bit faster (less or no traffic, late at night etc). Usually the officer cruise around with his radar on or park somewhere with radar on and wait for people to speed by.

long story short i've order the power cord from ebay, gonna install the detector back on asap.

thanks for the link to the $130 upgrade to ix btw

Start saving lol It'll pay off eventually.
I've saved at least $2k in tickets so far, The cops like to camp in the middle of the portman bridge or cresting the hill into Surrey and my 9500ix usually picks it up before they have a visual on me.

I picked my 9500ix up for about $400
My laser interceptor system alone costed almost $900

Good luck!

To get it new for $350 u gotta to have patience and be quick when it comes up, I signed up at Best Deals Online - Daily Deals and Discount Coupons a few months ago and the 9500ix came up like 3 times and the first time I waited to long to decide and two other times it came up they sold out because I checked my email too late.

So, if I ever decide to sell my 9500ix, Revscene is the place to sell it. Good to know.

I sold my X50 to someone on Revscene.

I still have a year left on my 3 year database subscription. Perhaps after that runs out, it's time to sell.

MG1: what is yours like for red light cameras? sometimes it would continuously announce the camera warning repeatedly while i'm waiting at the stoplight and it's annoying as hell... just wondering if it is just me.

It does that at certain locations for me, too. Yeah, it gets annoying. There's one place I drive by where there is no intersection and it announces a red light camera. I must have marked the location manually by mistake. I did some weird stuff when I first got my 9500ix - couldn't figure out how to add and delete marked locations.

I'm trying to remember where it was............. the repeating warning.

i get a warning in front of the canada games pool. to the best of my knowledge there has never been a camera at that intersection?

canada way and edmonds is one intersection where repeats consistently for me. again, i don't know why.

The radar keeps working, but you cannot update the database. That's all. I paid extra for it. So lazy, I think I've only updated four or five times in two years, LOL.

It's just a database of red light and speed cameras for North America. Just makes it so your database is right uptodate.

400 bucks? Shit, I should sell it. My 9500ix is about four and a half years old. However, its internals were replaced about a year and a half ago.

I purchased an extended warranty from Visions, where I bought the thing. The 9500ix went wonky on me. Some of the LED's stopped working so it looked like a Klingon scanner instead of something from planet Earth. Everything else was fine with it. In fact, I had it working like this for a year without a problem.

Long story short, I took it into Visions before the warranty ran out. I was planning on taking a trip to LA at the time, so I gave it just over eight weeks to get it repaired. Well, the bumbling fools at Visions took more than the eight weeks I thought it would take. They did not know what their left nut was doing from their right kidney and it was not even sent out for repair until about 5 weeks into the ordeal. It became apparent that I was not going to get it back in time for the trip. I made the sales guy at Visions let me purchase a new 9500ix on the promise that I could return the new detector for a full refund after I got back from the two week trip. I got back from the trip and the detector still hadn't come back from repair.

Did I say I’d keep it short?

After the five weeks it took the idiots at Visions to get their shit together, the detector was deemed not repairable by a local facility that Visions deals with. They were forced to send the 9500ix to Escort themselves, where they replaced all the internals and even replaced the worn out top half of the outer shell. Unfortunately, they couldn't replace the bottom half as it had the serial number on it.

Anyway, for $400.00, I'll sell it. I still have the box, manuals, etc. Everything except for the shrink wrap, LOL. Actually, it might still be intact. Yes, I am pretty anal about shit like that. Anyway, it's a 9500ix that is essentially about a year and a half old.

I will include two custom made mounts that are so strong, it’ll hold a small monkey swinging from it. I Frankensteined an iPad mount suction cup to the 9500ix mount.

If you don't want to buy the 9500ix, no big deal. If I sell it to you, I would have to look around for another detector, hee hee.

So why did I not pm this shit to ricecookerboi? 'Cause I wanted to let the fine folks at RS know what kind of wonderful warranty service you get at Visions.

LOL MG1 your a character man haha. Yeah really just as long, everything still works fine. No dropped signals, etc etc and can actaully detect well and can save me from eating tickets left and right. And you said Visions sent it back to escort for them to fix, and everything is pretty much brand new except the bottom doesnt have the serial number right? I dont get why don't they just save you the hassle and just give you a new one..... frustrating just reading it lol. Stupid visions.. Yes I'm definitely interested. But just out of curiosity MG1, if you are looking at other detectors, would you still get the 9500ix ? i'm assuming the well rounded best working ones are 9500ix.

No, the bottom half part of the outer shell is the original, because it has the serial number on it.

I am contemplating a Valentine 1............. just kidding.

Looking into possibility of a laser shifter combo. Maybe Redline with Live.

WTF? Canucks are losing 6-0????
