Bought a stolen phone Hello, So my friend bought a supposedly BNIB Note 3 from a store in Crystal Mall and after a month of use, the phone completely locked. We checked protectyourdata.ca and it said the phone was reported stolen and the IMEI/Serial code matches all the info on the receipt he was given from the store.. is there anything he can do? He went back to the store and the owner is "away" and he also called the non-emergency number but the operator didnt help at all. thanks! |
Does your receipt match the information on the phone? If it does, I'd just call the cops. |
I'm not trying to hijack your thread but this is EXACTLY what happened to my friend except for another phone and off someone on Craigslist. The person had a receipt and everything was BNIB. Then he decided to report it as stolen. Tried calling back but the number is gone. Will the police do anything about this? Seems like this would be of low priority to them.... |
I would still report it. If you got his number/email that would be some lead for the police to keep a record of... As for OP, I think your friend has a better chance if the place provided a receipt. Did he pay by cash or credit? If it is the latter, tell the credit card company to provide a record of sale and then provide it to the police if the store denies a refund. |
The situation is MILES different between a retail store with a receipt and somebody off Craigslist... Craigslist guy is fucked, store guy goes back to the store and raises hell until somebody plays ball or simply walks into small claims court, files the papers, and sues them. Mark |
^^^ +1 |
It was crystal mall, the buyer clearly paid with cash... |

yeah, they're golden if the receipt has the device SN on it. |
Call the police. A store selling stolen goods is a huge criminal offense Posted via RS Mobile |
