Hit & Run @ Metrotown Today

Hey guys,

According to a witness, my White VW GTI was hit by a large black truck that was covered in mud at Metrotown (ground level parking outside Coast Capital/Stone Grill area) at around 4:30pm today (Feb 1, 2014). He said he did not see any plates on the car (I think it could've been covered by all the mud).

I've already contacted Metrotown Security and they will only release camera footage to ICBC. The damage isn't huge, most of the dirt came off and there is a big scratch but I'd rather not have to pay my deductible for someone else's poor driving ability. Any leads would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

You should be set...hopefully the security footage unveils the license plate number. You never know maybe the driver didn't notice he hit your car? From my experience pickups are loud as hell especially diesels.

Don't touch the damage at all! leave the dirt on their and let ICBC see.

How the hell do you not realize you hit another car?!

You'd be have to be pretty inept to pull that off.

I've did the same with my wife's SUV, gave it a rash like that while parking inside our garage, in my diesel f250 and I didn't feel a thing. When a 8000lb truck rubs a 3000lb car, there isn't much resistance or feedback the truck can feel

Hope you find the bastard. Sucks to have to pay for someone else's irresponsibility. My car's going in the shop tomorrow for a hit and run also.

Was in my buddy's H1 Wagon a few years back, slowing down on Cambie when we were rear ended by a small car. To be perfectly honest, the only reason why we knew we were hit was because the people beside us started honking as we pulled away.

Lots of big vehicles don't register rubs and bumper dings as an incident to the driver.

You would think. Got out my car a few weeks ago, looked back to lock it with my remote, and noticed a huge dent on the right rear corner under the taillight. About the size of 2 fists, and about 2 inches deep. No scratches, just a big dent.

Now I have to go pay a dent guy to pull it out and pray he can.

How do you not realize you hit something???

Hoping for Metrotown security footage to pull through. They won't release or even acknowledge any information/footage to me, only to ICBC.

Despite having a witness for the accident and potential security footage (if Metrotown pulls through) ICBC says I'm on the hook for the $300 deductible unless they can find the plates of the one responsible.

I think if you get some paint thinner, that black mark will come off.

The mall cameras have really low resolution and maximize coverage. You would be extremely lucky for ICBC to be able to read the plates especially in low light situations.

Lesson learnt.. time for a dash cam, or better multiple ones for $300.
