Parking the opposite way on a quiet side street, if hit would be covered??
 

Not sure if this belongs here but ya if i park properly, but facing the opposite way on a side street and i'm hit by someone would i be covered? Or would they say "you were parked illegally so you are screwed"? Thanks.

i would think considering you still have insurance that it wouldnt matter how you were parked as long as youre not like sticking out completely or smthn

i think he means park just how you normally would facing the proper way...but facing the other way lol so ya technically its not "proper" but everything else is in the sense of not sticking the butt out , etc.

I think ICBC woukd cover but you may also get a ticket from the police.

If its a side street as in parked cars on both sides and only enough room to pass one way at a time. Then it wouldnt matter which direction you park, as long as your within the legal distance from the curb. The road is by-directional with no lines. So a u-turn is also legal. If there was a solid line separating the lanes, in order to park facing the other way, you would have to illegaly drive into on coming traffic.

As long as your car is in park position, you should be covered.

Had a friend who bumped an illegally parked car in a tight alley that does not permit parking. ICBC said: "Just because the car is parked illegally, that does not give you the right to hit the car"

not exactly the same but i had a situation where a large vehicle was parked to close to the corner blocking vision. it caused someone to turn into a one lane side street and hit my wife who had the right of way. the parked vehicle and it's owner took a portion of the blame along with the lady making the turn and my wife got 0%. the parked vehicle was not hit or scratched in any way. just not allowed to be there.


moral of story. just because you're parked does not mean you're in the clear like what was said above.
