Born in 1990.... Doesn't make you 15... Despite what the "Age" category says...

my almost 5000lbs truck could stop in that distance. im surprised a nimble little audi couldnt do the same.
this is probably something that you will want to read: ICBC | rear-end.pdf
snippet: Quote:
A vehicle must be far enough behind the vehicle it is following to be able to stop
safely, even in an emergency. (Motor Vehicle Act, Section 162)
Generally, the courts will rule that a vehicle that rear-ends a vehicle in front is 100
per cent at fault. However, in some cases the vehicle in front will be found at fault.
This might happen when, for example, there is evidence the vehicle in front stopped
for no reason or it suddenly changed lanes then braked.

I was sadly in an accident today near GardenCity and Alderbridge intersection at around 6:50 to 7 am this morning. Apparently a white truck had turned into our lane (thus was heading towards us , wrong direction). I was some distance behind a grey metallic Mazda 3 when she had stopped suddenly, giving me a VERY short time to stop as well.
| Doesn't surprise me if a C-Lai in Richmond will suddenly stop. |

Right after the accident i was hoping ICBC would find the other driver to be partially at fault but if you read the rules carefully the responsibility is always on you to make sure you can stop in time should shit like this happens. The only exception i recall is when someone performs unsafe lane change causing you to rear end them, provided you have evidence or witness to prove that...
anyways... hope your damage doesn't cost you a fortune to fix... | wait......so if someone brake checks a tailgater, and the tailgater hits the brake checker, then the tailgater is 100% at fault even though the brake checker intentionally tried to cause the accident?

Nevermind brake checkers. There's assholes out there that'll throw the gear in reverse and back into you. Dash cams are a necessity!

Because as a driver, it is your responsibility to keep a safe distance away from the driver in front of you.

i think the only time ive seen someone win a rear ender case (them rear ending someone else) is when someone abruptly changes lanes in front of you and slams the brake in which case you'll either need witnesses or a dash cam, otherwise as soon as you rear end someone, just quietly tell yourself "i fucked up" instead of trying to place blame. next time leave 3 car distances if 1.5 - 2 isnt enough for you and going speed limit alone isnt going to determine whether or not its a safe speed to follow someone... use your common sense
