Thieves drive stolen Jeep through Capilano Mall in jewellery heist

Thieves drive stolen Jeep through Capilano Mall in jewelry heist - BC | Globalnews.ca

Quote:
In another case of jewelry theft in B.C., thieves used a a stolen Jeep to drive through the front doors of Capilano Mall in North Vancouver Thursday night, in a brazen heist.

Mounties say at about 10:30 p.m. a stolen red Jeep burst through the locked front door of the mall, then drove through the mall and into the security gates of a jewelry store. Several people got out, smashed the glass display cases, grabbing some jewelry and then driving the Jeep back out.

The stolen vehicle was found a short distance from the mall.

A Police Service Dog searched the area, but it could not find any trace of the suspects.

Police say there is extensive damage to the mall and store, and they are examining video surveillance for evidence and to try and identify the suspects.

This is a daring and dangerous criminal offence with police asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the culprits, said Cpl. Richard De Jong of the North Vancouver RCMP. Our Crime Analysts are working closely with other Police Departments to assist in the investigation. The North Vancouver RCMP can be reached at 604-985-1311.
Scary how cars are often being used as robbery tools now.

This store is one of the stores that I deliver boxes to once in a while. Owners are great people. Hope they catch the thieves...

I'm assuming this is probably the same crew with the same car robbed a jewelry store at metrotown.

The expensive stuff (diamond, precious stones) may be marked, but I doubt any jewellery store would leave those in the showcases after closing. They probably put it away in their safes in the back.

I'm guessing the thieves bagged a lot of silver & cheaper gold items. Most of those aren't worth the effort to be marked.
