Getting body work (repair etc) done in US vs Canada

In my experience, there has been much lower cost parts for my BMW in the states vs Canada.

I'm thinking on shipping (or driving) my BMW to the states to get some body work done. Is this a worthwhile venture?

thanks in advance

Everything is just so much cheaper in the US, I ended up moving there. Totally worth while.

Exactly how are you going to do this?

I guess it depends on the type of work, but normally bodywork isn't a short process. Therefore logistically, drive two cars down, drive back, then drive back down to pick up the car and drive two cars back up. Between time and gas and other expenditures I can't really see that being too worth it.

Wheels and tires I can understand because you drive down, they are installed in an hour, and you drive away.

Legally speaking, any non-emergency improvements to your vehicle are subject to tax.

Sneaking repaired classic car into Canada costs man $55K

make sure to factor in potential taxes/duty or else you could end up spending more getting it done down there

Bodywork repair service is cheaper here in the lower mainland than the US. You just don't know the right people.

I was looking at getting a sunroof installed last summer, and I called a few places in the Seattle area to get some quotes. I would've saved around $500, but it would've taken over a day, and I would have to mope around the city without a car, get a place to stay, etc etc, and I just didn't have the motivation to do that back then.

Depends what you're getting done. Parts in the US will always be cheaper. We just can't keep up with their volume. So the only thing that can be "cheaper" is labour, which for the average person, would still be cheaper down there, or at least, pretty close to locally. I'd question things if my full bill was cheaper here. (Mind you, obviously it'd be cheaper if the bodyshop guy was your uncle who only charged you for parts or something)
