Home Alarm Battery

Anyone know a good place to get replacement home alarm batteries for the control/panel box? My door chime keeps beeping every so often out of no where, my family friend said it's the battery is done.

Thread jacking a little, mine does the same thing. Anyone know how to completely just remove the battery?

Get out the manual and see what is causing the beeping. It's most likely the battery, but it could be other things.

Look for the trouble light and press whatever key to activate the diagnostics.

You can temporarily turn the beeping off (bypass).

All this is in the manual. If no manual, look up model number and find pdf on Internet.

Soundy 03-20-2014 10:51 PM

What make/model alarm is it? An intermittent beeping could mean a number of things.

Most standard panels use a small (probably 4 or 5Ah) 12V lead-acid "gel cell" battery; if you or someone you know has a wholesale account at a place like Tri-Ed or ADI, they can be had for around $8. Retail they'll run about $25-$30.

Snipping the wires to battery, or removing the battery, won't help - that will just make the beeping more insistent.

Euro7r 03-20-2014 10:58 PM

^It's not constantly beeping. I don't know, maybe once an hour/few hours?

My zone 1 light lit red on but doors/windows is closed and the ac light is lit yellow.

Euro7r 03-20-2014 10:59 PM

Mines uses a 12V 1.2AH

Soundy 03-20-2014 11:12 PM

What alarm is it? Look on the circuit board in the can, see if there's a model number on it.

Paradox Spectra 1738 if I recall.

Soundy 03-20-2014 11:33 PM

AH yeah, I used to have a Paradox in my old townhouse. Lemme see what I've got on it... do you know what keypad you have?

Non LCD keypad

Soundy 03-20-2014 11:35 PM

Yeah, when you press the TRBL or TBL button, LED 1 lighting up indicates no/low battery. a 4Ah battery is recommended for that alarm, BTW.

Thanks!! The original battery is 1.2AH. Should I stick with that?

Euro7r 03-20-2014 11:47 PM

The darn thing takes 2 batteries as well

Soundy 03-21-2014 12:20 AM

Should only need one, but if you're getting a low battery alert, they're probably both toast. Go for a 4 or 5... gives longer run-time when the power is off. Two 1.2s totals up to only 2.4Ah... so a 5Ah will be twice that capacity.
