Modern Motorcycle on Commercial Dr.

I went there to check out their gear and heard that they give big amount of savings if you make a package.

Their sales person "Nathan" is extremely helpful and knowledge. He knows what size you should be getting and shows you around of the things he recommends to get for safe riding.

So I prepared up a list of the gear I want and went to see what kind of deal they would give me. They showed me 3 prices of each item, first prices were the "regular prices" which is outrageously expensive, then they showed me the "sale price". Then they showed me the "package price".

I preferred them to cut that crap out and get straight to the point.

Experience with them is 7.5/10. I think I met the boss, Murray, was pretty rude when Nathan escorted me to the back door since I parked in the back. "Where do you think your going?"

that's murray, he's a wet blanket to everyone. he's the only one i prefer not to deal with at modern. all the other guys are great.

LOL you've experienced a small taste of old man Murray's wrath. :lawl:

Good 'ol Murray, yeah he can be a bit of a grouch but just deal with his son Aaron. Extremely pleasant to deal with, almost borderline jolly.

They should just do package deal for everything regardless of buying package or not

Then everyone would shop there for gear! Ah to dream

If only they would price match revzilla, highly doubt they will, no one can compete with the american market here

CharlieH 03-24-2014 03:39 PM

^

got my Astars suit for cheaper at modern than revzilla. it wasnt an old suit that they had to get rid of either, they ordered it in and it was 70 bucks cheaper than the states. plus with the shit ass exchange rate now it makes more sense to buy canadian if the price difference isnt too much

edit: and murray is a complete douche. although i think a lot of older ppl will tell you that he did a lot for the vancouver motorcycling scene, it doesn't excuse him from his questionable business practices.

Recon604 03-24-2014 04:11 PM

which one is Aaron? the chubby guy?

All you have to do is talk to Aaron or Nate. Mention you are from RS and knows yours truly, should always get you a better price, package or not.

I only prefer to deal with Murrary.

Pro-tip - Ask him about his racing days and his AJS and Vincent bikes. You'll see another side of him.

thats what I did. Nate said "so you know tony and them guys?"

I said yes

seen murray's work on restoration. His knowledge and skills make up for his lack of humour at times. He comes from the school of hard knocks. His ability and connections are worth getting to know him and his son.

Dealt with Aaron, Nate and Jessie. They're all really chill people.

I think the lasting impression that's made me a repeat customer was when I just started riding a while back. One of the things that irked me was the "motorcyclist elitisism". (This is so thick in BCSB when i lurked that forum when i was researching getting into riding).

Anyways in general, all motorcycle shops are really pleasant to deal with but out of all, i find these guys are just really chill and down-to-earth to deal with.

the only thing i didn't like about owning an old bike was that if i wanted parts, or work done, i HAD to go to murray... he's the only one that has the parts and is willing to touch an old bike lol.

I purchase a lot of gear and parts from Modern, have yet to try their service dept. Maybe if I had an old Norton/Vincent or vintage British of some kind.

For old bikes, Cypress Motorbike www.cypressmotorbike.com/ is highly recommended. Darcy is able to do very extensive and difficult work. He's brought 3 bikes back to life for me -- and he has a dynotune. I've also had work done from Rising Sun Motorcycles who are also pretty cool.
