BBQ season - Tandoori Chicken in North Burnaby area?

BBQ season is starting and we all love grilling that flavourful juicy tandoori chicken on the bbq!

Does anyone know of a good meat shops that sell Tandoori near the North Burnaby area? I know there's a bunch on Fraser and I love Fraserview but it's just so far for me. The closest place is Hanna's Meats on Boundary/Joyce, which I've bought several times cuz it was the only option but I don't find their tandoori that great, the taste for some reason grosses me out sometimes, lol... anyone have any suggestions?

Also if you can recommend any other meat shops that sell premarinated meats for the bbq, please tell. I love marinating my own meats from time to time, but I also love trying different styles and flavours...

Thanks!

It's not as far of a drive, but there's a location on 6th Street in East Burnaby (close to 10th Ave). That's where I go for my tandoori chicken fix. SO DAMN GOOD

I'm not sure I follow what you're saying. I'm getting that "he likes Fraserview on Fraser among other places on Fraser, but it's too far from North Burnaby so he's asking for other places closer to him."

I suggested a place in Burnaby, but out east and not in North Burnaby. It also happens to be a sister-store to a location that he already likes.

Thanks so much M3thods for suggesting this place!! I went there last night, picked up a few pounds of the tandoori thigh/drums and a few pounds of the hot wings... DELICIOUS! it was the bomb man, way better than hanna's! I'm so glad you suggested this place, and it was only about a 12 min drive from my place.

They said they used to be the same owners as Fraserview in Vancouver but the split, regardless the chicken was awesome and I'll definitely be going there lots this summer!

Anyone looking for tandoori to grill, hit up this place! Prices are reasonable too and they open till 8pm every day except closed on Tuesday. Here's a picture of all the chicken they have, you don't see the chicken anymore cause they moved it all to the back..

hahah no problem man glad to hear that you enjoyed it! I don't go there nearly as much as I should, but I think I'll change that this summer.

It's also awesome to hear that they're just as good as the last time I went (~2 years ago) given your comparison to the Fraser St. Fraserview.

Is it still ~$1 a piece?

And btw- the pic doesn't work

I know it's per lb, but when I bought thighs it was just about a dollar per piece after everything. I'm wondering if the chicken pieces are around the same size.

The thing I hate is that they handle the plastic bags without washing hands, so basically I needed a few napkins and some purell before I could drive away. Is it still like that? lol

Tandoori is 3.49 per pound and yeah, you get about 2.5/3 pieces per pound, i would say about 1.25 per piece. The marinade totally weighs it down, lol.

Yeah, the way they handle isn't the cleanest, lol

i asked them to double bag the bag of chicken, cause all the marinade spreads , hahah

can you see the picture?

How do you guys cook your tandoori meats? Traditionally a Tandoor oven is needed to get to 900 F. I hear a Big Green Egg is an acceptable substitute though (680 F).

The place above is basically just tandoori-style seasoning. I personally just thrown them on the grill as I have no access to a tandoor oven. Yes you don't get that great unique tandoor flavour, but grilling it is almost as good.

I usually grill it but sometimes I just put it in a oven preheated at 425 for 25 minutes. I then broil it for 5 minutes.

If you guys wanna get fat, ask for chicken tikka next time

it's boneless chicken chunks marinated in a buttery sauce that's got a kick, ask for the sweet chutney (red one), combine the two after you cook the chicken and die of goodness overdose

I usually go to the Fraserview Tandoori House and Meat Shop on Main St to buy my meats.

I didn't know there's another one on Fraser street. I just googled it. They are called Fraserview Meats and Video Shop.

I'm going to try out the Fraser St one next. Good excuse for a BBQ this weekend!!

Fraserview on 6th Street is good. The best days to get meat there is Friday, Saturday and Sunday the meat is fresh since it sells thoughout the day...weekdays it slows down and can be a miss sometimes. It is about a 5 min walk from my house. Try Sidhu Supermarket on the corner of 6th and Graham a few blocks up from Fraserview, Sidhu has the best wings around, taste amazing and don't flare up on the grill. They also have this green chicken I cannot recall the name but it is very flavorfull.

But so far lahhhh

I guess I can check it out when I visit my grandma, but if someone can compare it to Fraserview and report back it may dictate how much in a hurry I am to try Vancouver Meat Shop.

Indian Meat shop near Cambie secondary isn't bad either, their BBQ wings are delicious but that's a different topic lol

a good Indian meat shop is worth the drive. its like Asian bbq. i used to get it from just anywhere until one of my Asian bros told me to go to hk bbq master. i'm not sure if he let me in on one of the Asian secrets but that place is killer. There's a real separation between the pretenders and contenders lol

I agree completely. HK BBQ Master is heads and shoulders over anything else I've had Chinese-BBQ-wise.

That said, I was just wondering if it was a similar case between VMS and Fraserview. I don't have Indian meat as much as I should, but I thought Fraserview was excellent all things considered. If VMS is the HK BBQ Master of Indian meats then I'll make the drive (as I do when crave HK BBQ). If it's somewhat close to Fraserview Meats and not that significant jump, then I'll save the trip until I'm in the area.
