Just curious, how many recreational shooters on here?

Interested to see how many recreational shooters are on this forum? Only interested in serious responses. Would like to know when and how you began, how often you practice, where you practice, etc.

I'm into shooting, I don't have my license yet, but I've had some experience with a variety of platforms. I've mostly gone out in the wilderness with buddies that have firearms, I've visited DVC multiple times since I don't have a firearm of my own.

Other experiences have been in the United States, there are more options down south when it comes to recreational shooting. I've always liked guns, but I didn't get serious until a couple of years ago.

Doubl3_H 04-19-2014 11:42 AM

membership with PCDHFC, but havent gone out there quite enough

nah its fine to have handguns. though we have restricted requirements like cant carts that load up more then 10 bullets, barrel length etc.

you need to go through program and apply for license though.

I don't have a license, have guns, or shoot. But it looks like a hobby i'd like to pick up, hence the questions.

van_city23 04-19-2014 12:59 PM

Got my license a few years ago. Don't shoot as much as I used to, actually not much at all any more. I used to go up to squamish gun club.

I have my RPAL and PAL, but haven't gotten around to purchasing anything yet. Any suggestions?

nns 04-19-2014 01:46 PM

I recall somebody mentioning there's a guy out in Richmond who runs a beginner's course. Anybody remember who he is?

doesn't ring a bell? unless that wasn't directed at me!

Hondaracer 04-19-2014 03:29 PM

Firearmsafetytrainingcourse.com is located in cloverdale and they run a really good course for anyone interested in getting their PAL/RPAL

Had my PAL since I was 13 and recently wanted to get my RPAL just in case laws change etc, ended up being the only one in their Saturday course so it was me and the instructor lol had a great experience though and I'd highly recommend it for anyone interested.

Any of you guys who shoot just out in the bush locally mind sharing your spot (PM if needed) I'm just looking to bring a few friends out to sight in some rifles and I want to stay far away from gross sylvester/mission areas

Hmm I have a high school friend named Mark I was recently at pcdhfc with just last weekend. I know hes pretty big on ipsc and the 3 gun comps? Usually heads south of the border a lot.

definitely unfamiliar with a Mattew though.

falcon 04-19-2014 03:53 PM

I've been shooting on and off with friends for about 2 years. Usually go out in the bush, shoot targets and clays. Last year I got a temp hunting lic. which made me go out and get my PAL and RPAL. Which I just got this week. Currently own a Browning Xbolt 30-06 and looking into a Ruger SR9 for range target.

EmOne 04-19-2014 04:26 PM

you can bring your NRs n shoot anywhere that is deemed crown land and I believe it has to be 1000m off a major hwy.
There's a spot not far from lions bay that a bunch of CGNutz go to. I'll find out more later

Dude, I've been eyeing the Tavor Gen2 in FDE as well. Looks like an absolute beauty. The reviews are great on it too.

It isn't that expensive either but man, I just can't justify 2.5k on a single gun at the moment.

Shorn 04-19-2014 06:25 PM

I went once to the range as a date and found it to be pretty fun. Definitely an expensive hobby but I would love it if I could afford it
