Say goodbye to Nokia

Leaked letter confirms that Microsoft Mobile Oy will be the new name of Nokia's handset division

Quote:
Leaked letter confirms that Microsoft Mobile Oy will be the new name of Nokia's handset division

Quote:
Dear Supplier,

On September 3, 2013, Nokia Corporation announced its intention to sell substantially all of its Devices and Services Business to Microsoft Corporation. We anticipate the transaction to close during April 2014.

Under the terms of the sale, Microsoft will assume all rights, benefits and obligations of the Nokia Devices and Services business, including Nokia’s agreements with suppliers, customers and partners which pertain to the Devices and Services business. Therefore, the purpose of this letter is to update you that the current terms and conditions that you have with the Devices and Services business will not change.

Please note that upon the close of the transaction between Microsoft and Nokia, the name of Nokia Corporation/Nokia Oyj will change to Microsoft Mobile Oy. Microsoft Mobile Oy is the legal entity name that should be used for VAT IDs and for the issuance of invoices.

NEW BUSINESS INVOICE DETAILS:

New name and registered address replacing Nokia Oyj/Nokia Corporation is:

Microsoft Mobile Oy

Keilaranta 7

02150 ESPOO

Finland

New Bank Accounts: Please note that Microsoft Mobile Oy is going to have new bank accounts, for further information please contact us via AP Portal: https://ap.nokia.com/APPortalExt/Login.aspx (registration required).

There is NO change in the invoice sending method, please continue to send the invoices via electronic channels as before.

For further information on changes (legal address/send to address) after the close of the transaction between Microsoft and the Nokia Devices and Services business, please check our Invoice Address Search tool (IAS): https://ap.nokia.com/APPortalExt/AddressSearch.aspx (No registration required), or contact us via AP Portal: https://ap.nokia.com/APPortalExt/Login.aspx (Registration required).

Please note that the only changes in the Purchase Order (PO) layout after the close of the transaction will be to remove the Nokia Logo and change the legal address, whereas the PO numbering format and sequence will not change.

Continuation of business with Nokia

In addition to becoming a supplier for Microsoft Mobile Oy, we appreciate that you might also remain a supplier to the continuing businesses of Nokia (i.e., NSN, HERE or Advanced Technologies) after the close of the transaction between Microsoft and Nokia Devices and Services. Nokia will communicate separately any changes in invoicing methods and addresses before the close of this transaction.

Best regards,

Nokia Devices and Services Financial Services Purchase to Pay Team

So does that mean we should buy Nokia stock because it's going to go up or people who have Nokia stock should sell?

It'll be known eventually as simply Microsoft Mobile, which is a reasonable enough name. Oy is the Finnish abbreviation for Osakeyhtiö or in English, Limited Company. Let's be honest nobody calls Bosch by it's full name Robert Bosch GmbH either.

I'll never stop assuming that people who are saying "Microsoft Mobile Oy" are Australian.

Changing the name of such an established company is up there with the stupidest of business maneuvers.

No, you wanted to be a shareholder earlier on since it was undervalued (down as low as $1.60 iirc) the sell off of Nokias Mobile Devices isn't a new story its quite old and rumored even earlier on

Nokia still exists so if you want to pick up their stock now you'll have to decide how they'll do being a Network/Map provider and Patent holder

Meh I was pissed off back when they recruited Stephen Elop and had already begun writing them off back then

MSFT was planning on using the "Nokia" moniker on their devices but not sure for how much longer, for me though i'd rather they wouldn't because it just sullies Nokias image imo

Nokia has a non-competition clause in their sale contract that only lasts through 2015 so we may still see Nokia mobile devices as soon as 2016 but I doubt it since they've gotten rid of all their plants/workforce*

(* India plant may still exist due to legal issues)

Is it really?

Changing the name to include Microsoft isn't that terrible since the Microsoft label will have a certain amount of goodwill attached to it (in terms of credit worthiness) to businesses that they deal with whereas the Nokia name seems to have gone downhill in recent years. This is comparing apples and oranges but an example that comes to mind is how WorldCom still operates under a different name because of the whole scandal thing.

Not trying to be a dick for the sake of disagreeing with your point or anything but just wondering why it's a bad business decision in this case is all.

Fuaaaark, remember my mom giving me her old Nokia as a "safety phone" when I first started walking home alone. Fast forward to getting an N95 for like $600 back when I was in HS, balling on minimum wage. Kinda crazy to think Nokia went from being the most popular phone maker in the world to scraping by in the space of 10-15 years...

Hear that? Its the sound of Charles In Charge destroying his Lumia because this name change is evidence of the Jewish world order using communication devices to spy on the citizens of the planet.

He has since purchased an HTC and, in spite of HTC's own alleged history of spying on its users, he feels comfortable because the people listening to his calls still have their foreskins intact.

Nokia 3310 were the beast. No matter how many times you drop it, it will still work. You might break your case but that's it lol. I still remember when fido was offering that phone free 3 months with them. I got a bunch of them lol =D

Not to mention snake was the most awesome game ever!
