Reporting dangerous drivers to police? So tonight, some ass in a Hyundai was tailgating me for a good 10 block through a residential area in New West. He then cuts me off, fingers me, then books it at a light, and plows through a 4-way stop. Blasts through the 4-way stop at Cumberland St. @ 6th Ave., then turns right onto Dixon Street. I have everything on video (see below) - is there a way to get this to the police? Is it worth doing? Do the police do anything about it? |
You can report it to ICBC but that's pretty much it |
Yes, you can report it to the police, and if you have his plate, they can issue him a ticket. You may be called upon to testify in court and/or provide the video if he decides to dispute it. |
i'd do it...i'd even show up for court date lol whatta tool...an accident waiting to happen |
You can report it, and I would encourage you to report it. Call the New West non-emergency line and they'll handle it. I've reported dangerous drivers a number of times. |
Reported it just now. I would still like to ask some of the active officers here if any fruit actually comes from it? |
In my experience when I had a guy pass me on the shoulder in Sask. I called it in right away and within a few minutes I had a constable call me back trying to pinpoint where they were going. Point of the matter, they appreciate you calling in. If you really wanna go above and beyond, call them and, if you can, follow the guy for as long as you can. |
Did you call 911? I know you can call 911 for suspected impaired driving, but do "one-time" dangerous maneuvers as such constitute an emergency? I lack faith in the non-emergency line as a few years ago, i called it to report a group of crackheads cooking up crack in the visitors parking lot of my complex, and the police officer showed up 4 hours later (he was apologetic) - at 3am, telling me there was nobody there. |
depends on their resources and severity of the crime. I called 911 because a suzuki vitara had strobes on highway 2. I had his plate and told them his direction but they just said thank you and never called me back afterwards. |
There can be different outcomes with traffic complaints.. There are always three sides to a story.. 1. your side of the story 2. his side 3. the truth. The video clearly shows the driver run the stop sign. That is about the only offence that is revealed. The video clearly shows him signalling when he changed lanes into yours, with adequate room. Because you made a report, there will be a file created regarding what you said, and the vehicles involved. If a VT is served, the officer will have to determine who the driver was. If that cannot be done, the VT can be issue to the RO. It is goo you have video though. It helps a lot, and is self explanatory. |
So...why did you cut off the video at 22:44:23? Did you do a rolling 4-way stop too? :troll: |
