| Got an excessive speeding ticket in Alberta with BC license
As the title says. I got that ticket today, it was on the 2 way highway and the cop caught me from the opposite side. He says he caught me speeding with 183km/h in 100km zone with rader... So he gave me a pink ticket which he tells me i must go to the court, its a compulsory.
My friends who works in alberta with a bc license getting caught so many times there and he told me he never pays for the ticket. Can someone give me a legit answer here please?

So your ticket tells you "i must go to the court, its a compulsory. . What part of that do you not understand? I would assume an arrest warrant would be waiting for failing to appear and that's not a ticket, it's a criminal code charge. That would be on top of an excessive speed charge...or whatever Alberta calls it.

Your friend is always right, all the time, regardless of what the truth is.
Even though you're living in a country with a certain set of laws, you don't really have to abide by any of them. They're more guidelines anyway, and only peasants keep the law.
And what is this com..pulsory? Never heard of it, so just pretend it means unicorn. |

So this post is probably going to be in vein but I just wanted to clear up a few things.
What the OP received is NOT JUST a ticket. It is a SUMMONS VIOLATION TICKET.
This means you are mandated to attend court. If you fail to attend, a warrant for your arrest may be issued by the presiding judge. Note that all provinces in Canada have mutual enforcement agreements with each other and this likely means that you're going to get arrested and you will be dragged back to Calgary for your hearing. This is a CRIMINAL offence at this point.
Some options that the OP can maul over:
Behind door #1
Do nothing and listen to your "friend". Failing to reply to the summons will almost certainly get you a higher fine and the possibility of a warrant for your arrest. Your driving license at this point may be suspended as well and a some other nasty things (enjoy traveling outside of Canada? Good luck in the future).
Door #2
Attend court and then enter a plea of not guilty. You can do this by either attending yourself or have an agent (lawyer or para-legal) attend on your behalf. The latter is less likely as it will likely cost more than the actual fine.
Door #3
Find out the court's address (maybe have a good look at the summons and find it on there) and write them a letter. In this letter, you can explain how you are unable to attend due to your residency or work or whatever, and your willingness to plead guilty. Then you can ask nicely for the court to set a fine in your absence, which you are willing to pay.
