Stretched tires and how it affects handling?

Hey yo

Got Corvette wheels for my Ford powered BMW, going to run spacers and probably stretch a 255/40/17 on the back and 245 on the front... will this destroy the ride+handle like shit+kill the tire fast?

That picture above is due to rubbing, not from stretching tires. Tires should wear normally like any other car would.

There is a trade-off to stretching though. Stretched tires can reduce the effect of soft sidewalls when turning but increases the soft sidewall effect on bumps.

Normally tires are like this |__| but when you turn they do this /__/

Stretched tires \__/ don't shift as much when turning but are more likely to pop a bead on bumps due to the angle of forces. .

Wheels specs would help.

Fronts came in 8.5-9.5, rears came in 9.5-11, depending on model and year.

If they're 9.5/11, it'd look weird with 245/255. 225/45 and 255-265/40 would look better, imo.

I've never had issues, even stretching a 195/45/15 on a 15x10.5

stretch does not kill tires.

handling revolves around quality and psi of tire in my OP.

that tire is not fucked from rubbing. Its fucked from stupid amounts of camber plus lots of stretch. the contact patch was very narrow.

Bingo.
The right side is where the face is.
The left side is the back of the rim.

Went from stretched 40's.
Now running slightly skinnier 45's and I'm never stretching again.
The grip + comfort is on a whole different level.

Make sure you check the tire specs for tread width. my RE070 225/45's run wider than my previous 245/40.
Same height. Fatter contact patch, cheaper, and bigger sidewall for bumps.
Not to mention most of the stickiest tires run as a 45 VS a 40.

Only downside: Boobs don't jiggle in my car anymore.
