1999 Civic Si coupe 5-spd

Long story made short:

I owned a 99 Civic Si coupe 5-spd back when they were new. Only owned it as a daily driver and barely put any mileage on it cause it was summer and I was always in my Jeep. It was brand new so nothing went wrong with it (and even it something had gone wrong, warranty would have covered me).

Looking to get into another. What issues should I be looking for that 15 years would start to show? What's a reasonable price for a stocker to a mildly modified? Anyone have one that they want to sell (anything but red)?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks all.

I'm not an expert yet, but when I look at hondas I usually check for the rear quarter panel rust, which is typical for a honda. But if there is none it probably indicates the car was treated well.

Also, you should for any oil leaks in the engine bay, usually you can tell if theres some short of brown guck around the engine. Check the oil stick to see if it burns oil, and if they changed oil before hand, you can try revving the engine to see if it shoots out oil in the back.
Check if the engine idles and see if the gears shift perfectly while the car is on and off. And when you're test driving check if the VTEC kicks in smoothly or not (not an expert on VTEC, but it should be checked).

Not sure if I missed anything that I know of, but I am pretty sure may be other stuff to look out for.
I may be looking to sell mine if the car I am currently looking at is good. I will PM you details if I do switch cars.

^^^ Thank you for the reply. My fault though: my post is worded as if I'm a complete car newbie. I was aware of the back of the ricks & the front of the rear wheel wells. But thank you for posting that.

As for the visible (oil leaks, exhaust, maintenance, etc), I am aware of those types of things but are there any 99 or coupe or Si specific things I should be aware of?

Butterfingers: what would you be selling me if your deal works.

There aren't many other things to look at other than the typical rust or engine since honda's are made pretty well.

The car that I'm planning to sell is a 2000 civic si, original OEM electronic blue paint, lowered on basic coilovers with a b18b1 engine swap. The shell has 260k (Mint paint except for a 2 inch diameter paint chip on the front bumper with a scuff on the corner of the front bumper) and 140k on the swapped dc integra ls engine.

Rear bushings - if they're worn, they can be a pita to get the arms off and will cause sloppy handling and uneven tire wear.

Water in trunk - usually just taillight gaskets or trunk seal but a good negotiating tool.

It was an Si (not SiR) so only Y8 anyways. I'd probably opt for the displacement.

I did some research on the b18b1 last night. I saw that it didn't come with V-Tec, but it's a newer engine, so I'll take a look. At least the b18b isn't a bad engine, just different with larger displacement, bore, stroke and compression differences (amongst other things I'm sure).

Just a note I am not sure if its the exact value, but my brother said its around $200, and you can add a VTEC head onto the integra LS engine, and will probably boost the horsepower quite a bit to around 160?

ice BOY once gave me bad advice.

Hes just a big jerk.

I would suggest going one step further and leaving this forum so you don't have to deal with him. Blocking him isn't enough!

I can't because I'm too addicted to RS. But you're new so leave while you can.
