part of me is thinking what the fuck why
but it makes some sense. trading raw prospects/picks for prospects who are close to making it. (ie. Clendening - Forsling swap)
hopefully the 2nd rounder is in 2017

This aligns with what bennings done so far... Swap pure prospects or picks for prospects that are further along in their development and more of a sure thing (in terms of being a serviceable nhler). Removes risk. Hes reorganizing the prospect pool so we have a continuous stream of nhl ready prospects instead a gap of 3-4 years before the next crop of prospects are ready. Also buys time for the virtanens and the mccanns to develop without rushing them into the nhl.

it's a fair deal...Baertschi hasn't done shit but is still pretty young.
