Who wants to squeak into the playoffs and exit round one or worse yet finish like 9th-11th, It seems that's where they are going.

But I think it's smart to hire a veteran olympic vezina calibre goalie for 3 years while you do your rebuild. Would you rather they sign someone for 50 years and have another Luongo situation? Or keep throwing Lack to the wolves?
And who cares how much they are paying him? You don't have to pay him, the owners do. The length is what matters, and how they manage cap space.
