2004 Acura TL - Issues and Reliability

Planning to purchase a used 2004 Acura TL with over 180k-200k km's on the ODO but the high ODO is making me a bit weary.

Are Acura cars pretty reliable like their Honda counterparts? And is there any issues I should know about in regards to a 04' TL with such high miles?

It was a first year model and first year models are usually not the best ones to get but since its Acura/Honda, it shouldn't be that bad..right? Are there any cons in purchasing an '04 TL as opposed to other years('05-'08)?

Thanks RS!

I'm into the 3rd gen TLs

1. Stay away from auto tranny
2. 04 TL have weak engine mounts.
3. pretty good on gas IMO.

Bro's 03 TL-S = Tranny Rebuilt
Dad's 01 Odyssey = Tranny replaced under warranty, replaced engine mounts at the same time.
Dad's 01 Accord = Tranny Slipping(high mileage, not worth fixing, driving it to the ground)

All 3 had the V6, would not recommend. Bro's rebuilt tranny was starting to slip again, sold it before anymore issues. The Van is slowly going, thing drives like a slug.

Also all 3 we're well taken care of and never abused. So its not about how you drive it. The tranny's just suck.

10 year old vehicle with 180-200k isn't scary IMO.

Honda V6 with auto-tranny on the other hand..

Honda, where nobody does a better 4 cylinder manual, but nobody makes a worse V6 automatic.

04-06 model years will more than likely require a trans rebuild later on if not already done.

07-08 ones are much more reliable in terms of trans since they use the RL unit. Very few failures reported.

If you dont want to fork out 3-4k for a rebuild than stay away from 04-06 TL's.

You will be surprised how many people don't know when to service a transmission. I know people who change there oil on time and have no idea what a transmission is. Most of them are women. So the next time you see an ad that says lady driven, what it really means is lady shitkicked.

Brought a 2004 TL 3 years ago with the timing belt changed. It had 169000. Now its at 205000 and it's fine other than regular wear and tear..

fun fact, every time i accidentally shift into neutral rather than drive my heart skips a beat as I come to the realization that I may have just blown a $3000 transmission (or whatever it costs)
