Metrotown before the renovation, where the shops around the bay, where the current food court is were a dead zone. I still remember exactly how it used to look before the reno, and where all the shops were, the walkway in between the two malls used to be sooo crazy! , I remember once someone sprayed pepperspray in it, it was so bad everyone was coughing and shit and trying to run out. It's crazy. Then during the reno, and then when metropolis area was opened up, it was the shit!

So many cool stores, just things to go look at and hang out at. Friends that worked at Playdium used to give us free play passes and such. it was a blast. Used to have those weekend marathon passes where it would be open 24 hours for the entire weekend. Glow store, Millenium (pre goth), Superstar, Playdium, The slurpee place with sooooooo many flavors.

The good ole days.

before station square @ metrotown turned into a ghost town, now demolished for high rises.

it happened so suddenly too when metropolis was completed

mods should merge this with the vancouver history thread...and items of the past can go into the I'm old enough to remember thread in VLS

Remember the old food court where T&T currently is? I remember that big screen in the food that you stood in front of that projected your silhouette in funky colors. It definitely kept me busy!

I remember going to visit my dad at work in North Van (Lonsdale Quay) when I was like 10. We would leave after school from Surrey and literally spend 2 hours getting there on the two lane freeway. This is prior HOV. Man I'm glad those days are gone.

LOL, we used to go there when we were in Grade 12 with fake ID back in the early 90's. We went so much they stopped IDing us, we'd bring back those little pamphlets they handed out with the girls performing and put them up on the bulletin board in our woodworking class. The woodworking teacher we had thought it was hilarious that we we're getting in...........good times.

Expo86. Still remember going there quite a few times. The concrete highway, monorail, giant Swatch watch, the robot, etc., etc.

I loved Highway 86. Never really understood the design at the time (some parts of the road were broken off and other parts had some vehicles submerged underwater) but the detail in the artwork was top notch.

Riding the Expo Line for the first time was something to witness especially knowing that there was no 'conductor'.

Good luck fitting in those cars now especially during rush hour

China Kitchen buffet. Some of you may remember when buffets were big in the late 90s. It seemed like some sort of Chinese trend where we went to all the latest, newest buffets. I remember China Kitchen was the biggest and had multiple locations like on Commercial and Broadway, Richmond, and Coquitlam. Then there's Oriental Buffet in Surrey I think.

Was just going to say that I don't know anyone who had a good experience at Uncle Willy's buffet, lol.

Also remember when there were other video game stores around that weren't EB or some ripoff collector's shop?

Phantasy / Encore, Master Player, Microplay

Let's not forget how we used to have arcades which required us to leave our house as opposed to today.

I remember when there used to be an arcade in just about every mall in Nanaimo... Fond memories of skipping school one day and bussing out into the city, going to just about every single one... That would have been when Mortal Kombat II was the new hot shit
