Recommend me a TV

In the market for a new TV. I'm only using this TV for 2 years so I'm not looking to go all out nor am I looking for all the bells and whistles. Budget is $1000 before tax at the top end but the lower the better.

I only need something that is at least half decent or better but I'm not interested in getting any ghetto brands though. The debate now is get a smaller but better TV at 40 inches or a bigger but not as good TV at the 46/47inch range.

Must haves:
1080P
3 HDMI +
120hz+

Nice to haves:
Wireless

Not much has caught my eye. So far I only see a couple options for the things I want in the price range I want.

Samsung 40" 1080p 120Hz LED Smart TV (UN40H6350AFXZC) : LED TVs - Best Buy Canada

LG 47" 1080p 120Hz IPS LED Smart TV (47LB6300) : LED TVs - Best Buy Canada

Any other recommended Tv's?

go with the biggest size u can afford, cus if u get the smaller one ull always wish u went with the bigger tv. im pretty sure any decent TV now a days will meet all ur requirements. depending on if ur going LCD//LED/plasma will determine which brand to go with. If plasma go with panasonic, all else go samsung, cant go wrong with samsung tvs.

oh n with buying tvs, ull always want more n more features as u compare the model differences, but 99% of the time ull never use those features after day 10

If you're open to the idea, I suggest checking out openboxco. There is also a similar store on Kingsway around Nanaimo/Victoria IIRC that just opened. I've purchased four TVs from openboxco and they are all still functional today (newest one is about 1.5 years old). Last time I went there (1.5 years), they had a 55" samsung that met all your requirements for $699.

Thanks for the replies so far.

I forgot to mention that 50inches is the max I would go because of where I'm putting it, anything over 50 would be overkill.

Now for the experts out there, how import is 60hz vs 120hz? Because I'll often see a TV that meets all the specs, price is low and it's because it's 60hz vs one with a higher price tag and it's 120hz.

120hz has a better refresh rate so fast moving objects (think hockey puck) will not blur as bad as a 60hz TV. If you watch a lot of sports, get the 120hz or higher.

I was going to recommend openboxco as well but check out Costco, they might have something for you.

Besides sports, I can't stand the look of 120hz mode on any other type of viewing. Makes everything look fake and soap-opera-ish.

for this reason alone i went plasma.

oh and stay away from the smart tv's. their interface is just slow and useless. look for a non smart tv and spend $40 on a chromecast.

+1 for buying at costco. product obviously includes 1 year manufacturers warranty and costco adds 2 additional years on top of that at no charge. costco ftfw.

You can always turn off the 120hz upsample function on all TV's with that feature.

Good point regarding Smart TV's as well.

+3 for openboxco.

I love samsung for TV's and cannot recommend them enough. Have a look at the different Series (series 5, series 6) they have and just pick whichever one suits your needs.

If you aren't going bigger than a ~50" you should have no problem finding an LED that meets all your requirements.

For me I find this only distracting on lower end tv's

I have a sony NX711 that's 120hz and I know two different people with high end sony and samsung, both are either 120 or 240 and always look completely natural to me

Would you be willing to buy from the states? Because pricing is currently horrible at the big box stores up here

If you're buying up here here's a good company to use as a pricematch tool Gibbys Electronic Supermarket for Home Audio Video System, LED TV, LCD TV, Speakers, St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada

Anyway for the price range I'd go with Vizio, they've certainly proven that they aren't a ghetto brand as they've consistently outperformed brand names in & out of their price range and you can go up to 60" and be under $1k!

I wouldn't actually. I would prefer to just walk into a store here and pick one up. Just debating openboxco vs a regular store now. I do see a ton of people on RS has had positive reviews about openboxco so far.

Get the 120Hz over 60Hz! It'll take a little getting use to at first, but you'll be glad you got it when you're watching sports or a fast moving action movie.

I remember seeing my friend's 120Hz Samsung a few years back and everything looked so fake because of how smooth it was

I've made my decision. Getting the 46inch Samsung 6350 series from Openbox unless the place gives me a serious turn off. If so, back to the drawing board lol.

I just bought this TV. LG 60" SmartTV LED 120mhz
I would stay away from Plasma, it overheats and once a pixel is dead, you would have to replace the whole tv.

Mine arrived yesterday and I do not regret it. Great deal and the picture is awesome.

ln5750 - Dell - Search - All Dell.com

You can also apply L5MPZD0W5F1PM6 to get an additional $50 off.

Plasmas don't over heat and I have know Idea what you are talking about on the pixel thing. Plasma have better PQ and placks compared to almost ever LCD on the narket. Edge lit Led tvs suck and most TV's with LED arrays have hot spot issues. Lets not forget the soap opera effect on LCD TV's.

dont pull stuff out of ur ass pls, plasmas do not overheat, and if they every did, ppl prob put them inside confined cabinets with no air flow which goes both way for LCD/LED as well, any electronics placed inside a confined space will overheat. yes they do generate more heat but not to the point that it over heats itself

and as for the dead pixel, i dont think ull be replacing any single dead pixel on a LCD/LED by itself too...

Picked up my Tv today from Openbox. Got the 46inch samsung 6350 for $799. Negotiated a cash deal for $820. He picked out a brand new one (or so he claims) and I watched them take it out of the box to show me. All original stickers on the edges of the tv etc all intact. Pretty happy with the whole transaction so far. Time to buy my wdtv and set everything up.

Thanks for all the replies and help.
