Stupid question but did you used the proper utility to have it boot via USB? (i.e. you didn't just copy the ISO to a USB drive and tried to boot it)

Otherwise,

Booting Ubuntu from USB, "Digital Signature not found"

I have been using ubuntu from 10.1x time.
USB Ubuntu is a bitch to set up, it works on one PC, doesn't mean it will work on others. It is worse if you want it boot with USB3.0

Download all the files from one source, I downloaded mine from piratebay, it is just simple few clicks. Make sure you use a thumb drive that reads 4K files quick enough. I had Adata S102 before my sandisk extreme, it takes several minutes to boot up.

Are you trying to boot a "liveCD" from the USB, are you trying to install from USB or are you trying to install it onto a USB like you would a HDD?

No. When you want to boot with USB, you need to use their utility to set up the ISO onto the USB so that it boots. If you just copy the ISO to the USB drive, BIOS/UEFI won't do anything.

Ah gotcha thanks for clarifying.

And I'm assuming that link in the second post didn't work?

Things I'd try are another usb port, then another usb drive, then redoing the process with a new iso download. Other than that I'm out of ideas.

I'm assuming you followed this guide? How to create a bootable USB stick on Windows | Ubuntu

I've been using Ubuntu for almost a year on my old laptop. It's a lot smoother than it was with Vista. I can still boot to Vista though in case I felt like it.

Ubuntu is a great alternative OS, too bad the general public knows nothing about it.
