Taiwan’s Central News Agency has just reported that a TransAsia Airways passenger plane crashed into residential buildings in an emergency landing in Taiwan’s Pengu Islands, killing 51 people.
The crashed happened just outside Magong airport around 7 p.m.local time.
The news agency cited the head of the fire department in the Taiwanese county of Penghu as saying that seven people were also injured in the crash.
It said Flight GE 222 took off at 5 p.m. in Kaohsiung, Taiwan’s second largest city, and was scheduled to land at Magong 35 minutes later.
Local firefighters say the plane did not reach the airport landing strip, but crashed nearby, losing contact with flight radars for a few moments before the crash.

Another plane crash....... seems like this year is bad to travel by air.

ae101 07-23-2014 07:26 AM

i just saw this in the nightly news, a typhoon just hit the area just last night, the plane was already delayed due to weather

also i was.told that only 47 ppl died

keitaro 07-23-2014 07:46 AM

That photo that the OP posted is of an Airbus A320, and not an ATR 72.

This is what an ATR-72 is supposed to look like.

That's still a lot of people! It doesn't make it any less devastating if the number is less than 200.

RIP.

I hate flying on Dash 8's. Feel like they're rattling apart even when its calm skies. Can't imagine what it was like to be a passenger flying in a typhoon.

RIP :(

You guys don't know fear until you've flown in a small prop plane or helicopter...

...on it's first test flight since a full electrical rewiring...

...that you did yourself. :heckno:

from what i hear, the dash 8 is an incredibly safe plane. i fly them quite often in europe for 1 hr flights, never had a concern.

the worst ones were the beaver or ottor or whatever it was flying from vancouver to cranbrook or somewhere near the alberta border (relatively near) - i did not enjoy that flight!

GabAlmighty 07-23-2014 11:15 PM

The Beaver is what made the north. Wicked aircraft that one day I would love to fly.

The ATR is a fantastic airplane. I have over 2000 hours in them. I'm very curious to see the outcome of this one. Can almost count out icing like 90% of other ATR crashes in history (even though they've since fixed the issue). News speculated thunder storms, but we all know how accurate the news can be.

GabAlmighty 07-24-2014 12:00 AM

Probably good old HF.

hypediss 07-24-2014 12:00 AM

remembered in my previous job that i had to always fly harbour air beavers to victoria even in stormy and windy weathers... feels like a roller coaster ride and the plane literally gets blown sideways

couple of first times sitting in it scared the shit out of me then by the fourth month i just went snooze mode regardless how rough it was lol - rocking the cradle amirite?

PiuYi 07-24-2014 12:47 AM

beavers and twin otters are LEGENDARY for being able to work in the worst conditions and still being so reliable and longlasting... they're considered one of Canada's best gifts to the world

GabAlmighty 07-24-2014 01:02 AM

One of my instructors at 15 Wings said he took off in the width portion of a runway in his CF Twin Otter.

danned 07-24-2014 06:39 AM

rip the people in the plane
