This stuff can be cranked out in literally one afternoon and get hundreds of thousands of views. YouTube pays out real money.
The people involved, the workers, are systematically abused and disrespected by these complete narcissists who have absolutely no remorse for whoever they use to make their money on.
The people being filmed have never agreed to help these men make money and get attention.
Yet the viewers who subscribe, share, and watch these videos get a good laugh while contributing to the spread of, and thereby enabling, and indeed creating, more sociopaths willing to use anyone to get attention and clicks.
We've seen it in the media with "clickbait" articles taking over shit sites like Vancity Buttfuck. However, because it is so effective in getting idiots to click, these sites and pranksters flourish.
To give an example of "high value content", I'll use the example, say, of an author.
It can take up to a year or more to complete a novel, another 3 months of editing, design a cover, and re-editing to get it to a stage where you can call it a completed draft. Then you need to format it for eBooks or paperback. Maybe even film a book trailer. This can cost upwards of $5,000 and the process takes up to *2* years. Trying to get that in front of people is then again another expensive task as "high value content" generally takes much more time to process than "low value content".
Going to the USA you can sometimes stumble into a neighborhood where everyone is a lard ass fat fuck. It is safe to assume that the majority of them are bacon creatures due to their incessant habits of ramming grease-laden junk food into their breathe-holes in-between episodes of the Kardashians parading their wealth. The same shit happens to your brain when you ingest a diet of stupidity, hatred, and narcissism.
ISIS members probably ingest a lot of religious hatred before getting on a plane to blow themselves up. I'm not sure about it, but I'm just guessing.
If you ever wonder why so many people seem to be complete retards in society, perhaps it is because they ingest a steady diet of "low value content" which then programs their minds to follow poor behavioral patterns.
"High value content" can be seen as a movie, book, music, or other art form designed to make you think. Art can help one begin to understand complex subjects, or perhaps give you introspection into how someone else dealt with a problem, maybe even warn you against a glamourized lifestyle.
I'm not saying all "low value content" is quick to market or that all "high value content" has to take a long time to prepare, but in general the more complex of a message or idea behind your work, the longer it takes to craft.
So much of what you see gain popularity on places like YouTube is bottom-of-the-barrel "low value content".

There is a video of a child slapping his mother while she is high on drugs and unresponsive. Instead of bystanders stopping him, checking on the mother and hugging this poor child who is in need of someone responsible in his life, people instead film this event and upload it to World Star Hip Hop which then profits off the endemic misery of black ghettos much to the delight of the owners.
To give you an idea of how much money World Star Hip Hop makes, a friend of mine tried to buy an advertisement on their site. The smallest ad deal they have per video on the front page, at the time, was $20,000.

i do get it, youtube has a great business model, and you're right, you can become a 15 minute of fame idiot through youtube... my problem, as you have well said, is that idiots see this stuff and think it's normal behaviour.
the moral fibre of society will never rise, it is in a downward trend. but you know what this does, it makes the rich/poor divide even greater, which is good for the rich.
i still can't wait for these idiots to get SERIOUSLY beaten, just like the other one when they go into the hood and say "you want to buy a gun... nah man, water gun, huh huh" - that type of antagonistic behaviour should result in broken bones.

If there's money to be made, there's always someone at the door ready to take advantage of it. Doesn't matter if it's right or wrong or who gets hurt. Money in their hands is what rules. Sad, but we let it happen and continue to let it happen. Technology has made it so easy for us to lose our values. Media and technology can be used for good, but it's much easier to come up with ways to make money. We keep feeding the bears.

I'll admit myself that attention is nice. Every day I fight my own internal narcissist. Being an artist and being recognized for your talents feels great, even if it is only by a few dozen people rather than 59 million.
However, there are many things I am not willing to do to get attention.
Remi, regardless of how funny some of his pranks and stunts may be, certainly got off on inconveniencing other people and causing mischief for his own benefit.
Other people who want attention will see the 59 million views and think:
Blacks will exploit blacks all the time. They have no problem walking all over each other to get to the 'top'.
But if a white person comes along and does it, then it's racist.
It's shit like this that make me pay more attention to global news. There's serious problems in all parts of the world and in North America, we're talking mostly about a celebrity hacking scandal.

At the end of the day it's mindless entertainment that appeals to the majority. This is nothing new though, the media has been dumbing people down with mindless TV shows for decades. There's also way less regulation online; something like this would never be picked up by a network due to the negative backlash it would receive.
I know what I'm about to say is a stretch, buuuuuuut...
Maybe if it weren't so easy and rewarding to produce "low value content" some of these people would be forced to learn how to create "higher value content" and actually enhance the culture in which we live?
If you want to be rich and famous you no longer have to attend film school or slug it out in theater for a half-decade to prove your acting mettle. With equality and anti-slut shaming, someone could whore themselves in porn for a few years, gain 100k+ twitter followers and have a built-in audience for movies/TV/books/music. With YouTube any old dickhead can make prank videos and increasingly narcissistic stunts such as running onto the field of a major sports event for nothing more than padding their own fame. Fame is an extremely valuable social currency. People can literally make millions of dollars from their name with little effort once you have amassed enough fame that people view you as relevant for whatever reason.

Porn is a drug that you take through your eyes. You have no idea how many people are completely addicted to porn, there are legions and legions of men who can't even get erect for a real woman. Many guys who buy porn maintain a dozen or more memberships at a time and have personal collections of 1+ TB of it.
Meanwhile, porn girls gain fame and attention from selling their bodies. Christy Mack was with a customer when War Machine showed up and beat her ass.
There is a Brazilian pornstar chick, I forget her name, but she would get flown to Dubai to fuck arab money guys for $50,000 a pop.
To most people, sex is an expression of love or even just the product of a relationship with someone. To some, sex converts directly to power. "Sexual capital" essentially translates into how much your attractiveness and gentials are worth when you decide to sell them on the open market. Uber hot pornstars and escorts can make 50k or more for one night. Fame is generally how they acquire these rates. Porn is how they get the fame they need to grab the attention of the 1% who can afford to fly a prostitute out for a weekend on their yacht in the Mediterranean.
Shit I rambled, yeah, porn is still a 9 billion a year industry and it is not slowing down. Porn is embedded fully in our culture and I have no doubt that children are now regularly accessing it and becoming completely addicted to it.
Back in my day if you found an old Playboy in the park it was a neighborhood scandal!
