Looking to buy a gold necklace, do you have any suggestions?

Hi everyone,

I am in the market for a gold necklace and don't really know where to look.
I tried one on today and I really like it (I've never worn gold before).

It was a very simple 10K gold chain and the jeweler was asking $500. He said his prices are the cheapest around. Though, I like to do my research whenever making a purchase like this.

Can someone point me in the right direction here.

Also, for the more experience precious metal guys out there, is it worth it to pay more and get a 14K gold necklace? I know 10K isn't the nicest, but if 14K is a better investment, I wouldn't mind saving up a little more for it.

Thanks.

Ill try and steer u in the right direction.

Updated as of today.
24k = $43.81 per gram
22k = $38.33 per gram
18k = $32.86 per gram
14k = $25.54 per gram
10k = $18.27 per gram

Determine the weight of your necklace and subtract if from the retail price.
You're left with the mark up and the labour cost for the necklace.

Do you know what a reasonable mark up is?

I was looking for simple white gold pendants to have engraved and my friend recommended Shamin jewelers on Kingsway across from Metrotown. They were WAY less expensive for what I was looking for. Basically got both for the price of 1 compared to other places I looked at.

Shamin Jewellers

And of course, like all jewelry shops, make sure to negotiate.
