2015 Corvette Z06 does 0-60 in 2.95 seconds, starts at $79K - Road & Track  Quote: Internet-forum debates are about to get a lot more real. GM released the first factory performance figures for the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06, and the car appears ready to invalidate every import-supercar argument ever made against America's sports car.
You already know that it's blown LT4 makes 650-hp and 650 lb-ft. That potent engine, when paired with the new 8-speed paddle-shifted automatic, delivers a 0–60 time of 2.95 seconds. The quarter mile is vaporized in 10.95 seconds at 127 mph. That's with the available Z07 package, which includes the max-downforce aero kit, Brembo carbon-ceramics, and Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 rubber. It also pulls 1.2 g on the skidbad. The previous best for any Vette was 1.13 g.
You prefer three pedals? With the seven-speed stick, the Z06 races to 60 in 3.2 seconds and hits the quarter in 11.2, again at 127 mph. The top speed has not been anounced, but 200+ mph is a foregone conclusion at this point.

Wow, that's impressive. Love the look as well. Very good price to performance ratio for a new car, although I doubt many will be sold at MSRP initially.

The fact that an Automatic is even offered on the C7 Z06 is 
The C6 Z06 was manual only. IMHO it should of stayed that way... Here's to hoping the eventual ZR1 sticks with the stick.

Pretty sure the auto offered is legit though- not a your run of the mill pontiac transport auto tranny.
i'm starting to hear some enthusiasts preferring a paddle shift over manual as it lets them focus on their actual driving.. thoughts?

At that level of performance versus the class of cars you are competing against I'm glad they added a paddle shift option. I've got to admit it looks pretty bad ass and the styling gets better with every new generation. As for those performance figures and bang/buck - I'm very impressed. Pretty hard to refute them at this point as long as they don't get recalled.

Most of these so called enthusiasts barely hit the track, and I have not met any real enthusiasts who say they find paddle shift more fun to drive than rowing gears and heal-toeing on a track.

anyhow back on topic- and specifically in response to flagella; for track usage. for day to day/hard park/whatever, auto would be preferred imho. i dont need to row gears to get from A to B.
i've been to the track a couple times, and while manual is very involving and a delight, i think i could appreciate a paddle shift.

I suck at driving, and when I've taken either the M5 or the NSX to the track, I would have been happy to use a paddle shift so that i can focus on driving line, apex, braking, throttle control, etc. instead of also having to make sure that my clutch work and shifting is perfect too..

I don't know how anyone can knock it as it's an option. Don't like it then don't buy it. Who else makes anything even close that you can buy parts for at lordco.

Welcome to the future people. More and more cars will come with paddle boxes because the people who can afford this cars want them.
Until they have a greater demand for a manual box they will keep filling the demand for paddles.
Also, as someone who has had the opportunity to drive some very high end cars on and off the track, if you want to go faster you need paddles. It has been proven time and time again that having it makes for a faster lap time (in newer boxes anyway).
Look at FIA WEC or other similar races, there is not a single car out there without paddles. Its just the way it is.

I went from a fun manual shift sportscar to a bigger and more powerful sedan with paddle shift (it was a compromise I had to make when I started a family), I got bored to death pretty soon after.
The point is, you don't want to be driving a pure sportscar for daily (whether it's manual or paddle shift) because for daily at the end of the day, comfort matter the most.
You want a beater for your daily, and get a pure sports car with stick shift for weekend cruises.
