Sony Pictures Hack

I can't find another thread on this. If there is please delete this one. Today they announced the movie the Interview has been officially canned amongst threats to blow up theaters which showed the movie.

Another huge leak is suppose to happen as well on December 25th.

Thoughts?

Godzira 12-17-2014 02:03 PM

ugh.

Well it would be the same if lets say North Korea made a movie about going to the White House on a tour and than killing the President. The movie is pretty much shitting on North Korea and their leader. We can think of North Korea however we want but people living their think hes the next coming of Jesus

I really don't think it would get the same kind of reaction. People wouldn't die over it.

That's because they've been brainwashed to think so and if they think any different, they'll disappear.

This is a real damn shame, god knows how much anti-american shit they force on the people of North Korea that we don't know about.

Kim-Jong Il never had a problem with Team America, to this extent, at least.

Unfortunately this makes him look really good to his people now. "Wow, our leader has the power to control the Americans."

This was bound to happen, as soon as they started with the bomb threats. Just like at a sporting event scheduled in an arena set to be full of people, if someone calls in a threat, they have no choice but to postpone or cancel.

This is a pretty big embarrassment for Sony, and a big financial loss. It's a shame he got away with this.

EDIT: That being said, I'm pretty sure the movie is awful. Seth Rogen films are pretty painful to watch.

Sony execs didn't think it was very funny: Leaked Emails: Sony Execs Scared of "Desperately Unfunny" Interview

I still think it looks decent...

As for the cancellation of the movie, I think it sets a scary precedent moving forward...

I thought the same thing! they're playing right into their hand and showing that violent threats will get you exactly want you want. but at the same time... maybe just to meet their simple "demands" it will save some lives. I just think the whole thing is obsurd. to be that upset over a dumb movie that won't impact anything or anyone. the target audience is a bunch of stoners... who even cares.

Ulic Qel-Droma 12-17-2014 03:00 PM

they (the hackers) probably have a lot of sensitive information that would make all the high level execs look REALLY bad.

they're not saving people...

they're saving their own asses from looking like whatever outrageous things they've said in private emails and pictures... the public would probably crucify them for being "racist/misogynist/hater/etc..."... stock tank.

its purely self interest. the shame they'll receive from their own people, will be worse than making any amount of money from that movie.

Watch them release the sensitive info anyway...

punkwax 12-17-2014 03:43 PM

Well that fuckin sucks!

They've let the terrorists win... Dubya wouldn't have let this happen!

INB4 Seth and James are assassinated.

AzNightmare 12-17-2014 04:42 PM

Obviously not a risk that can be taken, but from what I know, there's no credible source the hackers are from or related to North Korea.

It could be a bunch of hackers trolling. The threats of physical destruction could just be a big bluff.

7seven 12-17-2014 06:29 PM

I could care less about this film like any other painfully awful Seth Rogan film but I'm disgusted with Sony, what a spineless, coward move to cave into these cyber terrorist, you never give in to terrorist, just justifying terrorist actions.

It's not all Sony, though... most of the major theater chains decided not to play it anyway, so Sony would be releasing it to a handful of screens.

There may be lots wrong with Sony, but... credit where credit is due.
