The only logical reason I can think of for changing to the hard compound right before race time is that they expected the tarmac temperature to stay cooler than it did before the sun came out. They took a huge gamble and it backfired on them. . .like every other time. Huge respect for Rossi though.

2 - Marquez
3 - Rossi

Rossi still atop the points standings!!!

I actually caught myself nodding off at least 5 times during this race.. Just couldn't stay awake, it was that bland. Hope the next race is better.

Typical week ... Rossi storms through the field to grab a podium finish...

Marquez made a miscalculated gamble early in the race but his battle with Iannone was awesome towards the end. There was more passing between those two in a couple of laps then we will see in F1 between now and 2020.

1. Jorge Lorenzo
2. Valentino Rossi
3. Andrea Dovizioso
4. Marc Marquez
5. Andrea Iannone
6. Bradley Smith
7. Pol Espargaro
8. Yonny Hernandez
9. Maverick Viņales
10. Danilo Petrucci
11. Nicky Hayden
12. Loris Baz
13. Hector Barbera
14. Eugene Laverty
15. Alvaro Bautista
16. Dani Pedrosa
17. Alex De Angelis
18. Marco Melandri

Current Standings

1 - Rossi 102 pts
2 - Lorenzo 87 pts
3 Dovizioso 83 pts
4 Marquez 69 pts
5 Iannone 61 pts
6 Crutchlow - 47 pts
7 Smith - 47 pts

Nicky Hayden and Dani Pedrosa are struggling this year. It'll be interesting to see if they can mount a competitive conclusion to the season.

What a race!!!

A couple of thoughts;

-once again, Rossi starts from far back and has to battle all the way through the field to land on the podium. Even my GF made note of this fact while watching today! Regardless - it makes for compelling viewing.

-91,000+ spectators!!! This reinforces why MotoGP events should be held in the heartland of the sport. The atmosphere seemed amazing especially when the fans swarmed the track after the race. Rossi is clearly a national hero.

-Lorenzo - dominated.

-Marquez - he ran wide on a couple of corners and hasn't been a serious threat for much of the year when all is said and done at the end of race weekend.... But I was thinking "you can't call this a nightmare season for him... he's still challenging each race and has only crashed out once..." and then seconds later he crashed!
https://twitter.com/crash_motogp/sta...234754/photo/1

-Crutchlow - the announcers indicated that both he and Marquez went for the harder compound front tires and both seems to lose their front end with just laps to go. Coincidence?

-Yamaha dominance this year

ALSOOOOO ... did anybody see Rossi almost lose it during lap 12? Tremendous recovery.

Lorenzo domination - Yamaha is the Honda of 2015.

Remember - the series is back in Spain next Sunday for the Catalunya Grand Prix. Marc Marquez won the event on home soil. Can he forget his way back into title contention with a big win? 12 events left of 18 total this year.

The Slow Decline of the Honda RC213V ? The Lessons of Stefan Bradl And Alvaro Bautista

Great article talking about Honda's decline this year ... particular in relation to the performance of the bike last year vs this year.

Entertaining race this week!

Once again ... Rossi has to battle his way through the field to secure a podium finish. You just can't help but wonder how he would look this year if he didn't have to exhaust so much energy just to fight his way into contention.

That says ... he has been clinical in his approach to methodically battling his way into contention every single race.

Also - Marquez CRASHES OUT AGAIN.... is it time for Honda to panic? Is their season done? Are there enough races left for Marquez to make up some points to three-peat???

It was cool to see Suzuki take the pole position. Probably a highlight of their first season back in MotoGP, even if the moment didn't last but mere seconds it seemed.

Finally - what an unbelievable crowd. Italy and Spain are very much the heartland of this sport.

Does anyone know when they release the schedule for the upcoming season (2016)??? The wife and I are thinking of a trip to Italy next year and would love to be able to attend my first GP race in Italy if I can time things right.
