anyone who follows manga/anime knows what this is...

Ghost in the Shell - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

they have been talking about a live action movie based on it for awhile now.

I'm hoping Edge of Tomorrow can spawn many good Hollywood live action adaptations of Japanese sources...had so much fun watching that flick

latest peek...

looks like they lifted this scene straight out of the anime:

not sure if it's because it's still preproduction but the cgi disappoints

Of all the actresses

How was she not cast for a Japanese cyber punk adaptation. This one looks to fail to capture the essence of the original anime and the philosophy of what separates the human spirit from the vessel.

The part in the original anime that really made me think was when Batou and Motoko were having a beer questioning their synthetic bodies.

They flashed a title screenshot between previews for 5 seconds when I went to go see Dr. Strange. Cleverly done.

I can understand why people would question why Scarlet was cast as the main character to a certain degree. But, by attaching a name like hers to the movie was probably the only way to get funding for it. If it didn't have her or someone with as much box office draw it wouldn't get made at all. I say just be happy that it's at least getting made.

Body type is totally different.
Motoko should be skinnier and more muscle in the original anime 1995.

Scarlett Johansson is more of a meaty look.

I am not saying i don't like her.
Its just when i see her in this movie, its like a chunk of meat jumping around.

screen capture from the battle scene with the spider tank... looks fairly similar to the anime version:

I wouldn't say she's "too big" but to be more authentic she should be leaner and more ripped, like an athlete

I have the same issue with Wonder Woman looking like a skinny runway model instead of... well fucken Wonder Woman the Amazon princess

there is a little bit about the bodysuit she wears and why it looks like it does here:

I can't think of too many actresses to even play a solid role like this let alone Hollywood film + investment; no one will sign onto the project if it was an Asian chick.

Need someone to also pull in a wider audience and honestly, top 10 actresses:

-Angelina Jolie too old, can't draw crowd
-Charlize Theron also old but slightly better than Jolie. Never really had a huge A class draw in any film
-Olivia Wilde; not bad, but can't see her being close to being a good fit
-Jessica Alba: game over, haven't event seen her in film since Fantastic 4
-Megan Fox: errr no.
-Mila Kunis: comedy only.
-Natalie Portman, Marion Cotillard would be the last few I can think of.

Scarlett Johansson would be the only one I can think of.

Of all these, Scarlett Johansson.
