It is a plebicite.. basically a whole population polling. The result is not legally binding. They can still go with the original plan.

However if the mayor decided to increase tax even if the majority people voted no, they can kiss their elections good bye. Just the negativity from it would cost them to resign.

I voted no, when I do take the bus (once a week) I think it's okay, it's not great, but it's does the job. The traffic on the Massey tunnel during rush hour, now that's a different story.

Got my package yesterday. Voted NO and quickly dropped it into the mailbox on the corner of my place.

Hope people will vote. Saw a report on the news that a lot of people still don't know about this plebiscite that is going on; not sure if they're just completely clueless or what.

CTV news did a story on how some people in condo buildings have been seeing the voting packages tossed into the junk mail recycle bins as seems a number of people are thinking its junk mail

so if we vote yes, how do we know money raised from this will go towards these proposals the mayors are pushing?

Meh, yes or no, the money will come from somewhere. TransLink is allowed to raise property taxes by 3% annually, so that will be one of the income stream. Homeowners can't escape and will continue to bear the costs. I'm more for raising the tax so the cost will be born by a larger base.

I was going to vote no, but i voted yes.

Voting no is not going to change anything at trans-link, but it will delay or even ruin future generations living in Vancouver. I think its irresponsible for us to vote no to city improvements.

If you vote no, and nothing changes, the government and or translink can't be held accountable. But if we vote yes, and things don't change... then we can then hold their feet to the fire.

^ They are already being irresponsible. How are you or anyone else holding their feet to the fire?

Or better yet, how will you or anyone else hold their feet to the fire in the future?

Like anything else in a democratic society, You vote. If the issue is big enough the party that wants your vote will make it their party's agenda.

Who is they? Translink? This no vote doesn't mean you are going to stick it up against Translink. You are only saying no to development and improvements for Vancouver.

is something wrong with the reply page... my page wont fully load.

Lol so instead you rather screw yourself and future generations by saying NO to improving Vancouver?

You all seem to think if this vote goes for YES everyone at Translink is getting a raise and throw a massive party with shark fin soup.

No one is going to suffer more than the residents of Vancouver.

Have you tried taking the Massey Tunnel during rush hour any given day?

Or the Patullo, well... ANY time of any day?

Shit is ancient and overloaded already. DO enlighten us how these things will improve by letting things clunk away the way they are?

People need to realize they're not "sticking it" to Translink when they vote no. Translink just won't do those improvements. They're not going to magically cut CEO salaries and find $250 million because you vote no. They do not win or lose, regardless of the outcome. The only winners or losers are going to be us.

How much do you spend per year on things that charge PST? 0.5% is 50 cents per $100 spent.

Massey tunnel isn't translink jurisdiction. There is a plan to replace it already, that is 100% exclusive of this plebiscite. Things will improve by having the status quo.

Consider yourself enlightened

Patullo bridge on the other hand should've been replaced ages ago. That should've been one of the priorities instead of other decisions they made (or had made for them)
