Powerball Lottery

The jackpot is up to half a billion dollars for tomorrow night's draw. I heard Canadians are allowed to purchase PB tickets. Just for the shits and giggles might head down across the border to fill up gas, groceries and pick up a couple tickets.
Also the obligatory what's the first car you would buy with your winnings?

murd0c 02-10-2015 09:02 PM

I would worry about buying/building my dream home then travel to Europe and go car shopping directly at the factory's and travel around the world while my house is being built.

inv4zn 02-10-2015 09:18 PM

I know the lottery is luck this and odds that, but the odds of winning the PB jackpot is absolutely abysmal.

It's 1/175,000,000.

LottoMax, by comparison, is 1/28,633,528

Relatedly, here are some interesting trivia regarding odds of other events happening in your life:

1/650,000 odds of being killed by a terrorist
1/1,000,000 of dying by a flesh-eating disease
1/56,439 of being killed by lightning.

Apparently you're 3 times more likely to die driving to buy a lottery ticket than winning the jackpot lol.

If you buy 50 tickets a week, you'll likely win the jackpot once - sometime in 5,000 years.

There are the same odds that you'll win LottoMax as there are of you killing the one single ant in the football field you're on, blindfolded.

That being said, I buy LottoMax every week :okay:

lol, I think everyone (or most people) understand that logic.
But the fact that there is a "1" before the /359032435253582390~
That's enough to make people want to try to be the one.

I'll probably start with something more basic and work my way up. Given that I haven't had the privilege of owning a nice car all my life, I don't want to buy the best car and then feel like everything else is a POS.

westopher 02-10-2015 09:41 PM

The second I found out I won, I would pay anything anyone wants for one of these.

once i win, i am going to buy the shittiest car to learn how to drive stick.

i always joke around to getting a tercel to learn, but when i have that extra cash flow, its the first car i'm gonna buy.

then comes the big house and fancy cars and travel.

StylinRed 02-10-2015 09:57 PM

id put it all on green @ vegas
because i must have a leprechaun, lucky horseshoe, and four leaf clover stuck up my butt to be able to win the PW on those odds

so putting it all on green is like a sure thing :P

right?

Not only that it's payed out over 30 years. You can take a lump sum of around 245 million depending on what state you live in.

LP700-4 02-10-2015 11:30 PM

Firstly a LP700-4 for obvious reasons - probably the SV version aswell. P1 is a must, Veyron has to be in the collection along with a Carrera GT. After that the most expensive E46 M3 I can find along with a couple Range Rovers, RRs and S classes and that's about it.

Probably buy a couple RS members some cars aswell haha. Westopher will get his 911 for sure, Timpo his GTR etc...

Better stop dreaming and go to sleep lol

pastarocket 02-11-2015 05:15 AM

RS meet and Powerball ticket group buy in Bellingham? :troll:

-definitely would buy the Porsche 918 Spyder first.

A P1, Bentley Flying Spur, RR Phantom, a Mercedes S Class, a Ferrari 488 GTB, and maybe, just maybe
a LaFerrari.

Hehe 02-11-2015 06:49 AM

I would totally play it if I were in YVR.

But the car to buy first? This without a doubt:

Being from Canada you would be able to claim a good chunk of that back as well. Remember they also pay you less if you want all the money right away as well.

It's 243 mill in Washington if you want it in a lump sum. Also Washington state has no state tax on lotto winnings.

Does the Canadian government tax the winner if they're Canadian?

I thought that you could bring as much money as you want into the country contingent you claim anything over $10,000 so CBSA can assess if it's from proceeds of crime or international money laundering.

Manic! 02-11-2015 04:27 PM

I would make this happen:

You just have to have a trail of the money I think, I have a feeling you will get taxed in Canada but nothing like what the US would tax you.
