squeel tab is supposed to be installed at the leading edge of direction of the rotor. Thats the edge that wears a bit faster than the other end. As long as the calipers are good working order, the tab will still hit the rotor, but when the pads are worn down a bit thinner than usual.
If it were my car, i wouldn't worry about it. Some aftermarket pads don't even have squeel tabs.
Even if the pads were right side up, the tab can still break off, its been scraping the rotor for a while. I've seen it happen
