Should I Report My Hit and Run?

My car was backed into this evening by a full-size SUV with a spare tire on the back. My front grilled was visibly bent when he backed into my car, but when the driver noticed what he had done, he fled. Upon close inspection, there doesn't appear to be any visible damages to my car (no scratches, no bents, nothing), so I'm not sure if I should still report it or not.

I have the driver's plate and a general description of the vehicle.

You can file a hit and run with the cop, so next time he will think twice before he run off. Also didn't you say the grill was bent but then it is not? Also there might be hidden damages behind the bumper. Also look at the headligh mounting area. They usually break off then hit.

must've been pretty slow speed, i doubt there is any structural damage so if you cant see anything i wouldnt worry.

that being said, if it was me i'd report him.. teach him a lesson

Absolutely report it. Even if there is no permanent damage, you might be helping someone else out down the road when this driver does another hit and run.

My front grill was bent at the time of the hit, but it seemed OK afterwards.

File an ICBC claim, let them check your car... Chances are there's no damage, but it's still best to have that documented.

Imagine somewhere down the road, you go to sell the car, buyer asks if it's been in an accident, you say no, they notice a little scratch or crack from the hit, and ditch the sale... If you've got a record of ICBC saying it's fine, you've got that covered.

Why wouldn't you report it?

Did he hit you? Yes

Did he flee the scene? Yes

Do you have his plate number and/or description of vehicle? Yes

Is your car damaged? Well, you weren't very clear on this part.... first you say the grille was bent, and then that there was no visible damage... personally if there was no "visible" damage I'd do what Soundy said and get it checked, but if I had to get anything fixed out of my own wallet I'd report the fucker for sure.

There are some minor scratches at the area of impact. Adjuster told me today that the other party denied responsibility (that was a given). I got an appointment booked with ICBC claim center in a few weeks for a car inspection. What can I do at this point?

I am not willing to pay the deductible. That's for sure.

I don't think ICBC will let him off the hook yet - they should bring his car in to see if it's capable of causing that damage to your car.

Did you actually see him back into you?

If I'm not mistaken, ICBC would probably call the other person in and inspect their car and see if there's any damages and see if it lines up with your vehicle.

Or, they may just say this is too small of a claim to justify them investigating in the hopes that you will just drop it so they don't need to pay anything (assuming the damages end up being more than the deductible).

Yup I saw him back into my car. I was standing 5 feet away.

ICBC said they will inspect the other guy's car too, so that's good.

hopefully ICBC rules in your favor.

however, if its just you that saw it, its pretty much your words against them. whats not for them to say you went forward and hit them instead?
