Poor man's Miku/Minami

Looking for the poor man's Miku/Minami.

Think the whole dim light atmosphere and food quality without the $30/entre price tag.

if its style of sushi, then yea, kishimoto can definitely do it for you. its about almost half the price of miku/minami.

Kishimoto - wasn't really what I was thinking. It's pretty packed and I had to wait 30-40mins last time.

I'm not sure about budget. What can one expect to pay at Miku/Minami (dinner + drinks). I also wanna keep it nice but not pretentious.

Depending on whether you plan on having drinks. I'd say $75-$100/each to try out a few items.

Last time I went was around $250 for two people. Mind you we had wine, and drinks.

Not cheap by far, but good experience.

I always get Miku's Aburi Selection. It's about $20-40 worth of damage depending on the deluxe or regular IIRC. I like Miku a lot
Been looking for good Aburi style in Vancouver. Kishimoto is good but nowhere near as good as Miku's.

Really? I thought Kishimoto's pressed sushi is pretty damn awesome already. Is Miku really that much better? Worth the additional cost?

Party of 4, about $60 per person (tips and tax included), and it is a very FULL dinner (not yearning for more).

The sashimi there is expensive and not worth it.

If you skip the sashimi, it's about $60 per person (no drinks).

Horrible?

For the same price range, I'd say you find better sushi in Vancouver than Seattle, SF, LA and Vegas.

I found Miku sashimi much better than Tojo's
I personal felt that Miku's $20 per person was justifiable for its quality

Last time I went, the bill was around 120 for 2 with couple of sapporo, martini and just enough food to keep you full.

Tojo's sashimi's price is really, really NOT worth it.

It's good, but the price they charge is outrageous.

IMO, for sashimi, the best place is Sushi Hachi in Richmond and I usually go there once a month.

Lol at miku's aburi..their fish is barely seared and its just smeared with sauce on top to cover their average quality fish. Putting cooked ebi on a 'premium aburi nigiri' dish is laughable. Go to taka's for aburi. Yes they also cover it with sauce but at least when its not seared you can tell its good fish whereas in minami/miku it is not even close to worth what they charge. And they charge less for nigiri's too.
Why anyone eat any of the overpriced rolls at minami/miku other than the oshis is beyond me

That is kind of what I was hoping for... not $250.

Plus one for Taka, definitely worth the trip out to White Rock. Also I had sushi once in LA thought it was pretty damm amazing. I went to Sushi Zo expecting like a quick lunch, but when I got there it was chef's choice only and no prices. I asked the waitress she said it will vary from $100-120. I was like fuck it I drove 30 mins out here an there's no where else to go. It was served in a similar manner to JIRO Dreams of Sushi, definitely worth the price for the experience.

me and my wife hit up miku. the bill was around 150 for just sushi and no drinks. you need to try it once. if not for the experience, then you have a baseline. but prepare 2 bills.

+1 for Victoria Sushi

Their Aburi Salmon/Tuna Oshi Sushi is soo good. The Aburi Tobiko Roll is pretty good too.

Here's a pic of the Aburi Tuna Oshi that I took:

Also +1 for Taka. Definitely worth the trip! Planning to satisfy my aburi cravings there soon.
