The police actually welcome you to do the transaction in their lobby which is open to the public. It's just an extra level of security, a scammer would likely not want to meet you at the PoPo Station but never say never of course. If the item looks legit it isn't like there is a cop there to be a witness for the transaction so if they're brave enough I suppose they would not be worried about doing it there either.

Seriously. You need to use the resources available to you for purchases like this as opposed to the craigslist crapshoot. Next time use stubhub. Cl seems like it's more scams than real products.
That said, maybe the people that sold you the tickets didn't even know they are fake. If they were the ones responsible for all these sales, someone is going to have more info on then than you do.

Man. With the number of scams going on, it's getting to the point where CL can be such a hassle.

Meet at PD.
Get ID
Run car plates on CPIC
Check phone IMEI on blacklist.
Check w/carrier account status
etc...

i only gotten tickets about10 times off craigslist and everytime the seller was more than happy to either meet at there house or let me take a picture of there ID.

I think its alot more rare for someone to fork over a couple hundred dollars for a tickets to just steal there identity ect, when it probably could be done for free.

I completely understand, but no way in hell you are taking a picture of my ID...

Let's put it this way, if I wanted to scam you.... I am a season holder for Canucks which I sell on a regular basis... if I wanted to scam you, I can show you my season holder ID, my DL that matches my season holder ID (no pictures but I can let you glance to match the name), show you the season holder emails, and many other things, but if I really wanted to scam you I can sell you those tickets and get those stuff done.... after I can go online and void your tickets and print new ones for myself and rinse and repeat.

Happened to a friend of mine bought fake dooms tickets but she didn't realize until I took a look at them. I was thinking I'm pretty sure ticket master does not sell DOOMS tickets. Got a bunch of friends to email that CL ad and they were greedy enough to come out again, and this time we had undercover cops waiting to bust them. They tried to book it in the car then another cop car came out of nowhere in the alley to cut them off. This all took place by Cinema on Granville.

^Serves them right. I fortunately have not encountered an issue when buying off craigslist but it was mostly for Canucks games and a couple concerts.

I use stubhub and the likes to try and avoid these scams now. It's probably a little more but def not worth the headache.

Long shot but after seeing the news and realizing how many others suffered the same fortune as me (400 tickets reported already), wanted to see if we could track down one of the potential scammers.

Purchased 4 tickets to Maroon 5 from a craigslist ad. Tickets look perfectly real, came with "receipt" but of course when we arrived at the concert we were told they were fake...there goes $700.

My seller and I met at Starbucks at the Chapters on Broadway and Granville. Small, skinny asian girl (maybe 5ft 2-3). Poor english. Was accompanied by a similar height asian girl but chubbier with terrible teeth. Both black hair. Cell phone of course has since been disconnected. This description isn't very helpful unless of course someone else met the same two girls and has more info on them etc that we can compile.

Out of town unfortunately but will be attempting to get video footage from Starbucks to hand over to the cops. Again, nothing will likely become of this but I'm making the attempt in hopes that the losers behind this scam are caught eventually.

Thanks in advance

People are just dumb when it comes to buying and selling on third party websites. I've been buying/selling on Craigslist for over a decade and NEVER once been burned.

DUE DILLIGENCE.

I don't take pictures of people's driver's licenses; I sneak a picture of their license plate. If it's too good to be true, I don't buy. If there is higher probability that I will get burned than I will be making a safe transaction, I don't buy!

And if you think you're not going to get burned by meeting up in a police parking lot, think again. The only thing meeting at a police station will do is ensure you don't get mugged and MAYBE limit the amount of fraudulent transactions that occur by scaring off people who don't want to take the risk of selling fake tickets near police. But the motivated scam artist will still be able to rip you off at a police station.

"Ppl are just dumb." Ignorant much?

I too have been buying/selling on craigslist for well over a decade. Not once have I been burned before this. And sure with tickets I clearly got lucky in the past and everything working out.

I'll outright admit, once the seller was including a "receipt," I thought I was good. Clearly that was printed just as easily as the fake tickets. It was my own greed wanting to save an additional 100 bucks compared to stub hub that resulted in this. Lesson learned.

Snide remarks aside, I posted for legitimate advice hoping people would weigh in with useful advice. But of course factor in the revscene asshole personalities and you have some of the above replies.

next time if you buy something and meet up someone.. have your phone on video record and record as you walk up (pretend to txt).. so next time this happens, at least you have more then just a vague description.

Lol, reminds me of a story that someone posted.

Member planned to meet with someone at McDonalds or something. Out comes a kid with his dad and the father was taking a video the whole time.

Can't remember who.

As a seller, The buyer and I meet at a ticketmaster booth. Tickets are printed off in front of the buyer.

Next time, just request for such conditions to be met.
