| Got burned on Maroon 5 tickets. Help?
My first bad craigslist experience ever. My own fault for not being more vigilant but honestly had no idea how common this was. Have bought concert and canucks tickets on craigs countless times with no issues...
Long shot but after seeing the news and realizing how many others suffered the same fortune as me (400 tickets reported already), wanted to see if we could track down one of the potential scammers.
Purchased 4 tickets to Maroon 5 from a craigslist ad. Tickets look perfectly real, came with "receipt" but of course when we arrived at the concert we were told they were fake...there goes $700.
My seller and I met at Starbucks at the Chapters on Broadway and Granville. Small, skinny asian girl (maybe 5ft 2-3). Poor english. Was accompanied by a similar height asian girl but chubbier with terrible teeth. Both black hair. Cell phone of course has since been disconnected. This description isn't very helpful unless of course someone else met the same two girls and has more info on them etc that we can compile.
Out of town unfortunately but will be attempting to get video footage from Starbucks to hand over to the cops. Again, nothing will likely become of this but I'm making the attempt in hopes that the losers behind this scam are caught eventually.
Thanks in advance

Making an attempt to catch these guys is as crazy as buying CL tix. Take your medicine, and learn from it.

it's a very common scam...never buy anything off CL you can't test/verify
i'm surprised ticketmaster hasn't set up any sting operations over the years to catch these assholes

They'd rather people get ripped off on cl. Then people get scared and use ticket masters own ticket reseller and tm gets a cut off it.

A couple of years ago, my ex and I were had for Russell Peters tickets. It was two asian girls, wanted $120 for two tix. They were e-tickets. I went to the door and they said there is no way to verify unless I go in, didn't want to leave the ex alone with some random chick, so I didn't go in. Paid the $ and the two girls booked it to the sktyrain. At the door it didn't work. Went to the booth and we were told they were purchased and card reported stolen. The two girls were around the 5'2 height, but don't recall if one of them was chubby.

Reason for posting was I'm surprised by the power of the internet and given the number of ppl that were ripped off I'm sure the same group of girls sold them to others as well. Hence someone may have actually got some useful identifying info on them.
Anyways I could care less about the money at this point, it's the principle that pisses me off. I've clearly learned not to ever purchase something like this again from CL

I would prob drink till I pass out in that case.
As a seller on CL for many years, I would never meet the guy infront of my house unless its a heavy item. It's for security reasons for seller too. What if you're selling a BNIB macbook and this guy suspects you having more luxury goodies in your house lying around. It would become a target house for robbery. Just saying.

Just saying. | Ya I never used to think much about the house meet ups until I got married. Then safety immediately became a bigger issue and I've changed all meeting places to public places.
Meeting up at the Police Station is actually brilliant if it works for both parties...Would definitely weed out idiots like this.

That's one reason I don't buy from CL. If it is for a popular concert I rather risk it. So far been pretty successful with purchasing concert tickets through ticket master.

Not listening to 2 hours of maroon 5 was well worth the $700. I don't see how this was a scam at all.

Other than the person going to the door with you and holding your hand so they can't run away, there is no way to protect yourself 100% from a scammer. I've sold tickets to Canucks games and have had people meet me outside my apartment(they have no idea what apartment is mine, or if it's even really my apartment building), take a picture of my ID (could provide them a fake ID). Taking a picture of the person is probably your best bet as it may make them think they may be caught but it won't rule it out.

I sell tickets at the minimum once or twice a week on CL.... No way... No way I would let you take a picture of my DL, I would tell you to go fuck yourself.
There are way too much that you could do with my ID....

As a seller, I wouldn't let you take a picture of my ID or let you know where I live, regardless.
It's really just looking at it from either POV. Both sides want to feel as secure as possible, but it's just the nature of CL.
There's stories of seller's robbing for money, or buyer's robbing for the item.
Be extra cautious for electronics and tickets.

I rarely ever purchase tickets from CL, but I do have a question about it.
Some of you have said to meet at a police station. Do you just meet them outside on the sidewalk for safety in the event they try to rob you?
Instead of a photo of their DL, can you not just grab their car plate number (if they drove there)? Or meet them inside a gas station, or any place where they have tons of video cameras? Or how about a casino (if they're younger, and hope that the door man scans their ID)
