Where to go for back of knee injury?

I stepped the wrong way and hyperextended my knee. From what I feel and read online, i think i hurt my popliteus muscle/tendon.

Its been a couple month since it happened but i think i fucked it up more by exercising. im wearing a simple knee brace and not putting stress on it anymore but its taking a while to get better.

Do i go to a walk in clinic or straight to physiotherapist? i dont really have a family doctor right now after my previous one retired.

is physiotherapy covered by msp? or average price?

recommend any?

Thanks in advanced.

those knee braces will do fuck all for you, more of a inconvenience tbh.. a proper knee brace will run about 300 plus.

if you have extended medical yes you are covered typically its 500$/yr

physio will cost usually around 50-100 a session depending where you go to

go to a doctor first. you need to assess if your knee injury is bone or muscle related, and isolate what part of bone or muscle to properly address it. i strongly recommend finding a GP now that your current one retired. walk-in doctors are OK, but i've found them to be hit or miss. i've had some really good walk-ins and a couple of not so great walk-ins.

knee braces - different braces/sleeves address different knee issues. i can get a fancy expensive hinged knee brace but it won't do shit all if my knee issue is related to knee cap misalignment for example. the doctor can refer you to a specialist, kinesiologist, or physio therapy depending on the knee issue.

final piece of advice - whatever the dr tells you i.e. rest for x amount of time or avoid x sport/exercise for x reason - listen to them or risk re-injury and long term issues.
