I couldn't comprehend why the fuck they'd bring it there.
The article was long, didn't read through it all but I would be ok with the dogs tied and chilling on the OUTSIDE part of the patio (they'd be pretty much on the sidewalk). Definitely not inside because of the obvious health concern. If you're eating at a patio, there's dust and all kinds of crap flying around anyway. Why would you suddenly be bothered by dog hair (again, if the dogs are sitting on the outside part).
edit: dog owner but hardly ever bring my dog with me to eat at restaurants because, well i'm not the sad type to go out alone and bring my dog wherever the fuck.

Hell no...
I've 2 dogs myself, a 120 lb german shepherd and a 100 lb rottweiler shepherd. When they lay down, if they have the urge to take their hind leg and start scratching, dog hair starts flying everywhere. Despite being indoor house trained dogs, when they do their little body shake while walking (like a wet dog out of water), dirt, hair, and god know what other stuff they've been rolling in starts flying everywhere. If I'm paying to sit on a patio to eat a meal and enjoy a beer, the last thing I want is shit flying into my food.
Leave your dog at home. If it a hot summer day, keep a window open and a fan on, or an air conditioner if you have it. For those small little rat like kick dogs, they're not a fashion statement...get them out of your purse. If the dog cant walk more than a 100m without needing a nap...leave the fucker at home, let it piss/shit on your furniture, not the leg of the chair I'm sitting in.

Rather hear the sound of barking dogs than crying children...
That being said, I don't think it's a good idea because people are idiots. The majority of parents, when their toddlers cry and throw tantrums in public, seem to just shrug and go "oh well", completely ignoring the fact that their stupid kid is ruining everybody's dining experience. And considering that many dog owners are the same way, it would just make things worse IMO.

You know not notice if you have a dog but they do stink up the apartments. I been to open house where the owner have dogs and no matter now clean it is the smell is there (much like curry smell).
I like dogs but will never get one nor rent my apartment to pet owners (same with students but that's another story).

i love the bitching in here.
dogs hair in food! it's not hygienic!
just to be clear, when my brother in law comes into a restaurant with his service dog, you obviously get up and leave immediately right?
i find it hilarious you guys act like such bitches, but if there is a guide dog, he's ok. he's just as hairy, shitty, allergen having guy as any other dog.
all the hipsters want this place to be eco-friendly, bike lane and san francisco-lite.
guess what. san fran is so dog friendly it's insane. i have 2 dogs and even i was like jesus, there are dogs EVERY FUCKING WHERE in san fran.
you can't have a place trying to be like san fran, or portland without things like this. it's like bitching about hipsters but being a moustache stylist.
"what if a dog shits on my shoe?" who pays for that?
what if a child spills his drink on you.
what if a waiter spills food on you.
you deal with it like an adult you dumb fuck.

Yeah I will put up with guide dogs, I have never seen a guide dog mis-behave, infact they are probably more civilized then your stupid ass.
Also the number of guide dogs is very small in comparison to the number of people with just a regular dog, so chances are although they are allowed everywhere it's going to be pretty rare that you actually encounter one if you are worried or allergic.
Also the person that has a guide dog, NEEDS THE FUCKING ANIMAL, they rely on that guide dog all the time, and those animals do a tremendous job. Most other people who would be bringing their dogs to a restaurant would probably be doing so because if they left the mis-behaved, poorly trained, miscreant at home it would eat the furniture and shit on their keyboard.
So shut the fuck up, cause bike lanes are fucking useless in Vancouver.

While a guide dog might be hairy and allergen inducing, the simple reality is they are trained and then tested to make sure they are behaved properly, consistently. They lie under the table, don't move a muscle, and don't make a sound unless they are required to perform a task.
The average shitty lapdog that people are trying to bring to restaurants do not exhibit these behaviours.

you deal with it like an adult you dumb fuck. | You do realize a guide dog goes through years of training to be obedient. When a guide dog is told to sit and stay, it will sit and stay. It wont make noise, it wont shake, it wont even interact with other people. But when the skinny asian girl's purse dog starts barking and is told to stop. It wont stop.
When you realize you're sitting beside a disobedient dog, yes you will bitch and complain.

What I find amusing is how many of the comments here sound just like the groups who don't want casinos, or don't want restaurants and bars to be able to stay open later, or don't want you to be allowed to bring your own wine, or don't want wine and beer sold in grocery stores, or any number of other things that are done regularly all over the world, but for which people manage to come up with all kinds of worst-case scenarios that have no relation to reality.
So nobody worries if the dog is on the other side of the patio railing, but bring it inside the railing and suddenly dog hair is a concern?? Most coffee shop patios have always been open to dogs, but nobody worries about getting dog hair in their croissant and latte. You never hear about people's shoes getting shat on at the Starbucks patio.
All these supposed issues that people think will happen, when the same thing has been allowed for decades (if not for all of recorded history) in most of the world, and the system hasn't come crumbling down because of it.
So yeah, I say leave it up to the individual owners. If a restaurant allows dogs on the patio, and you don't like that, then sit inside. Or just don't eat there. Go to the next place that doesn't allow it. Pretty simple, no?

still, i'll play this game. I'm bored.
Explain your reply. How'd you arrive to it?
You the type of person who thinks they're smarter than everyone? I'm right or you're some sort of uneducated imbecile blocking the flow of change?
Lol. Please genius, blow me away with your knowledge. You're so good, you figured out that because i think some 23 year old's stupid online petition is stupid, i must think it's a good idea for low speed limits, no liquor in grocery stores, bar closing times etc.
I want to pick your professional brain and your expertise in logic and reasoning.
/s
or you know, just explain how in just two post, you've managed to go from stupid to pretty fucking stupid.

People will play the unsanitary card as that's the biggest push against Dogs on Patio's. (Health Canada)
For me personally, it comes down to dog owners. When I had a dog, the worst thing was the owners. Entitled, always right, lazy, retarded, self-righteous owners.. And we have ALOT of them here in Vancouver.
I'd personally rather not deal with that. I go out to ENJOY being out, a patio in Vancouver is a LUXURY because our nice weather season is so short. In short, I don't pay to go out and put up with untrained, loud, pests.
