2016 RSV4 RR or 2016 S1000RR
 

So seeing as I no longer have my R1 (lent to a friend and he ended up getting hit, cracked the frame in half and cracked the block, he's ok), I'm looking to pick up a new bike.

I have looked at all the offerings when it comes to larger displacement (1000cc+) and there are not to many that get my attention. I have narrowed it down to the RSV4RR and the S1000RR but I cant make up my mind.

To me, the S1000RR is the more advanced bike. Both bikes have traction control, wheelie control, ABS, launch control, and quick shifters. However, the S1000RR has electronic suspension and its quick shifter also does down shifts.

A do enjoy all the electronic goodies on these new bikes so the S1000RR appeals to that side of me. The RSV4 on the other hand lacks the down shift feature and electronic suspension but it feels like it had way more character.

The price difference between the two is around $100 (S1000RR being more expensive), but I just dont know which one to go with.

I say the s1000 just because I think its sexier.

Considered it, but I hate the way it looks. Headlights look like an after though on the bike and when I rode one it was geared as if it could hit 300mph+ :P

There is not allot from the Jap bike guys that appeals to me right now. Very capable bikes but no "fizz" feeling about them.

Let's see, would you rather win Suzuka 8hrs or WSBK? Although. . . being the choice for aspiring rogue agents should count for something

I haven't rode the rsv4 before, but I have test rode the s1000rr and its everything you hear it is. It's an incredible bike, but one thing as you mentioned I thought it lacked was character. As mentioned before, i've never rode the rsv4 but I always hear great things about it, and the styling has really grown on me. The one con I guess for me would be how compact the rsv4 is, as im a taller person. You really can't go wrong either way, and if you decide on the s1000rr get one of the older models as the newer ones look like shit IMO lol.

After debating this for some time. I rode a buddies RSV4, rode the new S1000RR and figured I had figured it out. I was heading down to put a deposit on the RSV4 RR that was coming in to the local dealer but I took a good buddy of mine. He has a 2015 R1 and he had me ride it down there.
I had ridden it before and was not impressed (they are restricted for NA market). This time when I hopped on it was a completely different bike. He has flashed the ECU and removed the restrictions from the bike....WOW.

So after riding that bike for just under an hour my mind was completely changed. I will be picking up a 15/16 R1. There is also talk of a 16 R1M and if thats the case I think I will jump on that one.
Despite its lacking looks, IMO, that bike felt like a 600 with rocket-like power.

It seems like money isn't that much of an issue to you, perhaps you should look at the Mv Agustas?

Money is not the concern but having a bike that speaks to me is. The MV is a beautiful bike, no question there, but it does nothing for me.
I come from managing a motorcycle distribution company for 10 years and I got to play with many many bikes. They were all great in there own way but few stood out to me.
The sound of the R1 is great when you throw a pipe on there and it speaks to me because of my past with Yamaha bikes.

yeah for sure, everyone has different tastes for there own personal reasons. I've thought about trading by 1098s in for couple bikes but I cant see myself actually letting go of it, im in love with the vtwin. My next dream bike would be an F4. I would definitely want to test ride it firs though, which seems like a long shot lol

I built and rode the ONLY Canadain F4 1000 here. Its a hell of a bike for sure and like mobile art.

The 1098 is an awesome bike. We have one as a shop bike and its been a blast to build. We started off with just doing a few little things but it soon turned into an insane build. There is not much stock on there anymore.
There is tone of potential in the 1098. So much can be done with it and its a rather well composed streetbike. Better than the 1199/1299 IMO.

MV Agustas are so disappointing in person. Lot of things are done for dramatic effect but feel very cheap. More design than engineering.

Personally in regards to the original question I'd go for the RSV4. Best sounding production bike period. It's also super compact if that's your thing. The S1000RR is a perfect supersport on paper but there isn't anything interesting to love about it.

IMO in terms of styling it doesnt get any better than the MV Agusta, i also like how its a physically bigger bike and the 4 pipes are a beauty. rc8r is another bike i have always been some what interested in, but i read somewhere their not making anymore of them? nonetheless love the futuristic look it has.

and i've heard an rsv4 on the highway, dont know which exhaust it had on but it sounded like a formula 1 car lol

The new R1 or R1M are sweet

Apparently there is a R1S coming out for 2016 that may be between the R1 and the M. Looks like I will be holding off until the 2016 bikes hit the floors to see what is offered.

With everything the R1 offers its hard to consider others but there is just something about the RSV4 that always draws me back to that bike. Ever since the release in 09 when I was at Miller for WSBK and spent time in the pits with the factory Aprilia team....I just loved that bike.

Another vote for RSV4. It's just a sexy bike.

RSV4 RR vs S1000RR ... that's my personal (dream) dilemma too!

There is something so intoxicating and exotic about the RSV4 .. historically I go for the "sexy" choice ... but my preference would probably be the safer choice here (S1000RR).

Safer = unsubstantiated assumptions about resale, reliability, service costs, accessibility of parts, etc.
