| How to pause my car insurance?
Since i am going back home for about 2 months, need to pause the insurance. But how to do that? Do i need to do the in advance? Thanks for your answer.

Cancel it. Then buy it again when you return. Thats how I do it.

You can't "Pause" insurance.
And for 2 months, cancelling is hardly worth it.
If you cancel, you have to forfeit your plates, then when you get insurance again you will be charged for new plates.

Keep in mind that if you "Cancel" your insurance, your car is not covered in the event ANYTHING happens to it while you're away.
You can put storage insurance on it, which isn't too expensive.
I should have stipulated that when I say it's not "worth it" i'm basing that on the roughly $100 a month it costs me for insurance. It's not worth MY time of dicking around at the insurance office, and changing my plates to save a hundred bucks or so.

it's either storage or cancelling insurance. you should talk to your insurance agent.
if you live in a condo, I think the strata requires you to have insurance at all times in the lot.

Why would you take the time to post on here and wait for a dozen uneducated responses that will give you, at best, a very vague answer to your question instead of just, oh I don't know... phoning a fucking insurance agency or, maybe... just maybe... ICBC? You know, the place that provides said insurance to you and asking them??????

If you are going away for a while and your insurance is not cheap, it's definitely worth it. I used to do every summer when I head home for vacation. The cost is under $100, (more like $50, but it was a while back) and I'm not sure about you guys, but even with roadstar, my insurance is still quite more than $100 a month.
Heck, my insurance agent even gave me a ride once from airport so I could have my *new* insurance ready to go when I get back home.

My insurance agent comes my my house. It's ridiculously easy really. I just sign 4 pages and I'm done. For both my vehicles.
For insurance renewals, they should just let you do it online. There's no point driving ICBC rates up with brokers for this.

well, if you have a diligent insurance agent (if not, go find one) tell them the dates you'll be away and they'll change your insurance (to storage) for you when you leave, and when you're back.
my dad changes to storage insurance for even a month, let alone 2 months in your case.

always switch to storage insurance.
you get to keep your plates, so no need to pay $18 for new plates.
you get a refund on any remaining time on your storage term if you choose to reinsure your car before the storage policy expires.

I'm.on autoplan 12 and she said I had to cancel my insurance first thus having to surrender my plates before switching to a storage plan.

You only get to keep your plates if your insurance has lapsed.
As for broker costs, I don't think our rates are primarily correlated with how much it costs for brokers to sell the insurance. See below from a recent globalBC article of the proposed rate increase. Quote: |

If you're not properly insured then what are the risks (no coverage?)?
I think the above questions could affect costs of claims and fraud, thus could increase rates as well.
