The cheapest video backup camera?

I need a cheap rear parking hack!
Supposedly you can connect this universal cable to your Android operating system cell phone and instantly get video... a $30 used cell phone and $10 webcam can do wonders... plus the cell phone can double as the cars music system.

Even two cameras!

Infinitegra, Inc. | Android App "USB Camera"

It should be noted that USB cables should not go longer then 10 feet because they lose power... perhaps USB amplifiers fix this.

Edit - how to make your own converter cable.

Or our could just buy this: http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Wireless-Car-...m3ceea3ae1b:g:

4444 11-12-2015 03:27 AM

or just learn to drive / concentrate on the road. we survived without back up cameras for 100 years, we don't need them now

disclaimer: i had a rear view camera from the factory in my last car, was nice and all for really tight parallel parking, but for any kind of reversing, you should be looking back / around regardless

CharlesInCharge 11-12-2015 03:56 AM

No ones forcing you to adapt to new technologies old man.

How about side video cameras instead of mirrors for blind spots!

cameras aren't new technology, they are just cheap enough that they can be economically put in cars.

if you're a half decent driver, you will have no use in cameras in and around your car. rental cars, yes, you don't know their size so have less confidence in tighter spots, your car, no, not necessary.

I park a mini van in tight downtown alley spots... regardless... how cool is it to see whats behind you for so cheap... $30 Android, $5 webcam, $5 cable hack.

import = $0. missassauga - vancouver = free shipping.

can't recall what taxes you'll pay, but max. exposure at $88 is $100 post tax.

tell me how i'm wrong and that this is somehow a false flag or whatever you call it. please, i'm waiting, like all other times

CharlesInCharge 11-12-2015 05:02 AM

Show me where youve ever been right? Please Im waiting...

Using a smart phone or tablet as a parking backup monitor, has way more capabilities then a remote controlled, stand alone LCD monitor costing atleast $100 as a package.

For instance... does the monitor let you record road footage as a cell phone could???
How about play music videos or movies?
Can it Fm transmit to the cars radio?
Can it call 911 in case of an emergency?
Can it browse the net?
Does it have built in GPS?
Take a photo?
Take an audio note?
Order pizza?
I can go on...

StylinRed 11-12-2015 05:15 AM

back up cams are really convenient, especially if you don't have visibility from your rear windshield, far better than just using your side mirrors

v_tec 11-12-2015 05:26 AM

Charles, I have a cheaper solution for you: Infinity

CharlesInCharge 11-12-2015 05:38 AM

You make claims and expect me to repost your troll posts? no thanks... trolll lol lol lololol lol.
@v_tec
Time is money, I would lose money trying to get around with a bike.
But you can always add a rear view camera to one.

yray 11-12-2015 08:50 AM

anything thats a removable + lcd screen = broken windows in dtwn.

CharlesInCharge 11-12-2015 09:01 AM

Yea, gotta be creative in how and where you mount the camera... of course leaving the monitor\phone out would be stupid.
Looks like the minimum Android O/S needs to be version 3-4 and higher

And only some webcams are compatible... it needs USB UVC capabilities... and even then its best to google successful makes before purchasing.

Some compatible webcams

Honestly are you just shitting on this to shit on CiC?

Tons of people are adding backup cams to their cars, it's a really awesome convenience feature. No it's not necessary but it does make things easier, especially since a lot of newer cars have gotten pretty bad in terms of rear visibility.

mos_skeeto 11-12-2015 10:02 AM

One really good thing about backup cameras is the ability to see kids that are shorter than my trunk which I may not be able to see with my mirrors or looking back.

You said you wanted a backup camera that's all. Your idea is stupid. I would tell you why but I do not feel like helping you out.

GLOW 11-12-2015 10:48 AM

for what you're trying to do and the price, i think manic's ebay camera might do the trick.

Xu.Vi 11-12-2015 04:19 PM

Lol, aren't you afraid that the RCMP/VPD could hack into your system?

ae101 11-12-2015 07:54 PM

seriously u telling use to get the times but isnt going to shell out extra dough for something decent

seriously dont be a cheapskate & shell out for a real back up camera, dont grab a stupid cheap cell phone & web camera

back up cameras are convient, its not something that u really need but its convinent

Anjew 11-12-2015 08:13 PM

having a backup camera is so much better than just using mirrors. the fact that i can back up until i'm about an inch from the obstacle behind me is so much better than NOT having one.

i want one of these mirrors.

.

pretty much

my personal feelings to them is that, if a car comes with it from factory, fine, but adding it seems a bit excessive unless you genuinely have a vehicle with terrible blind spots (the kids point is very well taken, but most cars should be fine for that)

After watching the video... I just cloned "Nissan's" great ZioAmerican copyright technology. I would just need to manually flip a smart phone over a rear view mirror and have two wide angle webcams at the rear tips of my roof to achieve the same results.

I recently semi joined the rat race like the rest of youz by getting a job at a super market.... but just before I had to be in the right poverty scale to get an appointment with a lawyer regarding Charter Rights of sexism and public humiliation for an arbitrary pull over. I meet with free Bono lawyers early next week and want to see for myself the facade of the Canadian, champions of human right and freedoms, when the judge throws out my case since being pulled over for "not matching the description of the registered driver".
Further discussion of the matter will not be entertained as there's a whole thread on it. :)
