Hit and Run 49th and Knight

Posting this for a buddy to see if anyone might've caught it

Buddy of mine got rear-ended just before 49th on Knight St going northbound today at around 8:50am (give or take 10 mins).

He drives a 2015 Black Accord Sedan. He's unsure of the make/model of the car that rear ended him but apparently it's a beige/tan sedan. Early to mid 2000's model. Possibly a Benz/BMW/Acura.

He was rear-ended just before 49th. He signaled to the person to turn right and pull over on 49th and the person agreed. The person then floored it down Knight and sped away after he turned right. Car was driven by a middle-aged Caucasian woman. No other passengers.

Shitty but he wasn't able to get an exact description or license plates and he was unable to do a quick Uturn to catch up. Wondering if anyone driving down this route saw something or has footage around that time that might fit the vague description. That person must've been speeding down Knight after evading him.

TIA!

No dashcam? Pretty SOL.

+ heading into Richmond. Well that's easy to spot...

6o4__boi 11-18-2015 11:48 AM

yeah its a stretch but worth a shot

northbound Knight, so heading out of Richmond, if she was in fact from Richmond lol.

murd0c 11-18-2015 11:54 AM

any indents from the front license plate in the rear bumper?

v_tec 11-18-2015 12:21 PM

SOL situation. But at least worst case scenario is the $300-500 deductible. Insurance rate won't go up.

pastarocket 11-18-2015 12:25 PM

This is a big stretch but worth considering.

What if that driver in that beige car ran a red light on knight street and 49th or knight and 41st (assuming that she is going northbound on Knight for quite a few blocks)?

I assume the red light cameras at these intersections would have pictures of that car. Is it possible to get access to footage from those traffic cameras?

Spoon 11-18-2015 12:42 PM

So many mistakes made. Tell me he at least grabbed a witness or have some sort of proof he was in a hit and run accident.

6o4__boi 11-18-2015 12:49 PM

no identifiable indents afaik
but yeah, its an SOL type of deal minus some sort of divine break

I thought about that. I google mapped the intersection and didn't see cameras on 49th and Knight but I did see one on 41st and Knight that records all directions.
Correct me if i'm wrong but those red light cameras don't record unless someone runs a red right?

The cameras at 41st and knight do record, but i'm not sure if its one of those cameras that take snapshots every 30 seconds or something. I told him he could always request footage via FOI. All long shots but hey, not much to lose.

sorry to hear, it was good gesture on his part to pull over and not block traffic. I would do the same. I guess lesson learned next time just stop once you get hit, and not move until you get all their contact info.

dat_steve 11-18-2015 02:16 PM

culprit agreed to turn left and then:

Wouldn't matter anyways. Wife's car was parked and got H&R 6 months back, witnesses and the whole 9 yards. Witness even tried chasing truck on foot but no licence plate just name of company in this case the Hospital near by. Sure, insurance didn't go up but we still ended up paying out of pocket for deductible.

that is a new low.

dvst8 11-18-2015 10:21 PM

Driver was probably going to work and might take the same route around the same time. Might be worth a try to stake out.

twitchyzero 11-18-2015 10:49 PM

^ except OP's friend didn't even remember the make and model...this is why it's so important to stay calm after an accident because your memory will very likely be a friggin blur soon afterwards

sorry this happened...i would've been so temped to chase after the rearender and get the plate digits

!LittleDragon 11-19-2015 04:41 PM

Always get out of the car on the spot if it's safe to do so and snap a pic of their car and license plate right away... then ask them to move and get out of traffic.

Street View shows a camera for southbound Knight at 49th, but that wouldn't help you northbound. Plus, they only activate when the light turns red, and then they take 2-3 snaps only if a car enters the intersection.

This happened to one of our work cars, 3rd party decided to take off after minor fender-bender. Little did he know the license plate left a perfect indentation in the bumper of our car:mamoru:

no, ICBC gave him a unicorn.

Of course they gave him $1000, he just said it :rukidding:

GLOW 11-20-2015 01:50 PM

i think v_tec can read, he's just calling bullshit :lol

nah 11-20-2015 02:15 PM

Maybe he took $1000 instead of getting his car repaired.

Supposedly, that's an option now where you can take money instead of having your car repaired. Didn't even know that.

inv4zn 11-20-2015 02:28 PM

^Maybe his car was not worth repairing, so they paid him out $1000...and he lost a car.
