Recommendations for a second display option for laptop?

For Xmas my brother wants somthing to use for a second display as his primary work/home computer is a laptop. He has a second monitor at work but needs one basically 100% of the time when doing any sort of work on the computer whether it be at home or abroad etc

Are there any compact or at least portable options? Or are you basically stuck with the traditional flat screen monitors?

Also any recommendations when it comes to good keyboards to plug into laptops?

I'd just get the highest resolution and size possible given budget.

Waiting for my LG 31MU97z to arrive. Cinema 4K (4096x2160)@31"...

As for keyboard, unless it's something for long period of usage, go wireless. Logitech has a few good ones.

Would a tablet with a screen share app work?

I have 2 monitors (laptop/monitor combo) at 2 very different resolutions. The scaling drives me nuts. Wouldn't this be a problem if you had a laptop with a 1080p res and something else at crazy high resolution?

Somehow I missed the portable part. I think it's the jetlag.

If portability is a must, I suggest the Lenovo LT1423p. My graphic designer uses that for demo/editing on the go. Works like a charm and gives you more flexibility in term of functionality.

I'm not sure I understand your problem. On my Mac, everything is displayed flawlessly unless I were moving stuff between the screens constantly, but if you stick with the master/slave idea of multi-screen, this is never a problem. (keep what you are working on the master, anything else on the slave.)
