Whats a stock 1990 240sx worth?

A buddy just called me about a 1990 240sx a client of his owns. It's bone stock with 300k on it. the old guy used it to drive to work and back. I also think it's a single owner. Anyone know about how much it would be worth?

5spd w/ clean body and running good, prob $2.5-3Kish. Under $2K would be a good deal.

Craigslist price: 7k with drift tax

Realistically: 2-3k (depending on rust too)

If it's manual, clean/no rust, and in all around good shape. I would say easily $5k. These cars are getting more and more rare.

Considering it has the less desirable single slammer (which is oddly ironic seeing as KA's of any kind have no value whatsoever), anything over 2k and the owner should be walking away smiling.

That guy can ask whatever he wants, but there's no way a 22 year old Datsun with a truck motor is worth 7 grand.

^ That hurts

I actually find it pretty sad to see such a great car, and none of them in decent shape for the years ahead. Theres no doubt the 240sx is a great car and it really was a step back to the roots of a sports car. Ah well. I don't really like Nissan's anyhow. ha

i rather pay 10k for a clean stock 180sx than a 7K stock 240.

If the car is clean, he'll probably be lucky to get 3500. Most people who are into 240 has a limited budget and would buy a 800 rust bucket over a clean chassis.

Price of cars with these age and mileage largely depends on the condition.

It could be worth a few thousands if it looks absolutely mint and had all the proper maintenance done on it. (e.g some OCD car enthusiast babied it)
A typical 27 years old, 300K car is probably going to the junkyard tho. (I am thinking the engine probably need a rebuild soon, and there are probably hundreds of parts on the car going to need replacement soon.)

But you never know, the drifter crowd will pay an insane price for a piece of junk lol

There's a lot of great cars from that era that are hard to find in good condition now, let alone in another 10 years or so, but I don't think many of them are great enough to warrant asking those kinds of prices. Definitely not when it isn't the top trim level and comes with arguably the crummiest motor available for that chassis.

Desireable chassis. Drifto tax. That $7K one posted is probably more like $4.5K. Remember that the older cars are gaining popularity now. Same thing happened to the AE86's. You can't buy a fucking rust bucket for less than $5K today.

OP: if the shell is clean from collisions and no rust then I could see it being worth $2500 but it should be bought a project swap car, not a daily as the motor may be on it's last legs with that mileage. Plus the stock motors suck.

It's worth whatever the idiot you find with cash in his pocket is willing to pay for it. That's called market pricing.

What's it worth to ICBC? Or an insurance company? Ask. Or make friends with someone at a dealership, who can look up trade in values (Blue, black, gold books, etc).

I don't get why someone in every pricing thread needs to post this. We don't need the grade 4 social studies lesson. All of us here understand how capitalist, mostly free market economies work.
What he is asking, is "What is a reasonable price for someone who doesn't know these cars to list it at so that they can actually receive interest and not leave a bunch of money on the table if it sells?" to a group of people that likely have reasonable input because of greater knowledge on the market of the car due to an increased level of experience in it. He just didn't feel the need to explain it in as many words because he probably thought that it was fairly obvious.

Maybe someone needs to write a nice sticky then..

No, we can't tell you EXACTLY what it's worth.
