Kingyo has one of the best bang for buck and tasty lunches. But their dinner stuff has gone downhill.

Rajio is also one of the better ones

Manzo for skewers

Guu is kinda okay if I feel like being a cheapskate looking for a late dinner or snack. I love their grilled squid which is not drenched in sauce unlike most places.

Not on your list, but stay the fuck away from Zakkushi. I ate that shit sober and it tasted like ass. I went again super-stoned and it still taste like ass. When food tastes bunk to you when you're high, it must be absolute garbage

I like Zakkushi. Easily the widest selection of skewers.

Manzo is infested with Richmond peeps. Kingyo I find was super expensive. The Guu across from Kintaro is not bad.

Not super concerned with price as long as the food is worth it.
Doesn't have to be skewers either, just Japanese style tapas and small plates.

Of course it is infested with Richmond peeps, its in Richmond . If anything, I find Manzo one of the few Asian places in Richmond with the LEAST obnoxious Asians around. Not sure if I'm lucky but this is the case for me at the Alexandra location

I think I've visited most, and I still enjoy going to Guu Gastown and Guu Garden the most. Not everything is perfect, but I always leave satisfied.

Hapa Izakaya at coal harbour (waterfront) during happy hour (3-5:30pm M-F) is pretty good. Menu selection is big, price is cheap and food is really good. Restaurant is massive compared to the other Izakaya restaurants.

Havn't been to Guu in a while because the lines and wait are just ridiculous.

Kingyo is also very delicious.

IME Kibo yaletown had decent food, better than the Guus. Then again like with most Izakayas, im usually only there for the drinks

I was at Guu garden last night and the service was shit. 2/10 service. 7/10 for food.

I prefer Guu garlic and Thurlow. Kabocha Korokke is yummmmmm.

no mentions of our OG izakaya Hapa?

still some decent food to be found, not going to knock my socks off anytime soon but i prefer it over every guu minus garlic.

+1 for Rajio

and another vote for Suika and that braised short rib

I've only been to hapa izakaya once - on Robson. And it was during our Izakaya peak with so many izakaya's opening around the city. It was intensely disappointing.
