Japan unveils homegrown stealth fighter Japan unveils first homegrown stealth fighter prototype | The Japan Times i know there's an airplane thread somewhere probably feeling the pressure of the growing Chinese conquest 0-60 still slower than a GT-R, though |
Now ISIS can add to their Toyota fleets of carnage. Japans a puppet state. |
was hoping for something very macrossy, only somewhat disappointed |
Looks dated af compared to US stealth tech from decades ago |

Came in expecting something badass. Left disappointed. |
What we all hoped for/expected. http://99pcwallpapers.com/wp-content...-Wallpaper.jpg What they delivered. http://drawception.com/pub/panels/20...gSpyarhp-8.png |
Anyone else think the look might be to make it more discrete? |
this is just the torso right? they're gonna unveil the rest of it later on right? can't wait to see what the leg/arm, head and sword fighter will look like! Spoiler! |
Watched the video. Looks alright. How it looks on radar is more important. |
When I read the title I instantly thought Macross and transforming jetbot. Came in to find that others had the same thoughts. Not disappointed. Disappointed it doesn't look like this though: http://sdtimes.com/wp-content/upload...og-macross.jpg |
looks like a generic jet from the 90's |

Looks like a fun toy remote controlled plane. |
is it just me or is the budget very slim for stealth R&D? typically when purchasing a small fleet of jets are in the billions....in this case creating one only took 300M? I know Japan's economy hasn't been hot the last decade. yeah the mock prototype looks flimsy as hell...almost like a paper mache Avro |
They took off the shelf systems and parts of other airframes to make it. Its a budget plane. The Shinshin looks like it would work but in reality stealth is going to prove to be less and less effective as they implement new radar and tracking systems. They have already done studies with old radar systems and found that the older style of radar in fact picks up the stealth aircraft so why bother spending billions to make a super advanced stealth plane when it is likely it will be of very little to no use. |
From my understanding this is just a test bench. It does not even have any weapons on it. |
footage leaked of the first test flight |
Are you talking about Mitsubishi Shin Shin (三菱 心神) that I posted on Military thread back in 2013? http://www.revscene.net/forums/63275...thread-39.html |
That looks anything but stealthy. |
^ by is sheer size, it will be hard to make out on the radar. similar to the mig-21 (in terms of cross section) ,,, but sure looks stealthy |
Watching the vid in the attached link shows that it's actually pretty modern and stealthy, I think the image preview of the video isn't a good representation of what it actually is, throw some matte paint on there and it looks pretty good. |
I saw Timpo had posted here, and I will admit that a small part of me was hoping that he was posting a picutre of the new Liberty Walk stealth fighter. Im a little disappointed that its not the case. BibleThump |
Funny enough, the creator of Robotech/Macross designed a Japanese-built stealth fighter...for the Ace Combat Universe. Looks the part too. http://vignette2.wikia.nocookie.net/...Shinden_II.jpg |
