Importing a car from... Mexico?

According to this Canada opens door to used vehicles from Mexico - Autofocus.ca it should currently be legal to import some 2012 and older vehicles from Mexico. I've never heard of anyone doing it but it would open up the ability to get some of the cool vehicles that aren't available in Canada and the US, and as an added bonus they'd be LHD and you wouldn't have to pay for it to go on a boat.

Any info would be sweet, especially on where to find used car listings in Mexico, because the couple of sites I've come across don't have much of anything.

That's what I'm trying to confirm! Especially since cars seem to be quite inexpensive in Mexico (I found a 2010 Focus RS with 62k km for the equivalent of $24k CAD) I want to find out what kind of sales/export taxes apply in Mexico and which vehicles are legal to import to Canada.

"the only vehicles allowed in will be those that can be certified for Canadian safety and environmental standards. This means that some vehicles will continue to be effectively persona non grata in Canada, because if they don’t already meet Canadian safety and environmental standards, it will likely be too costly and difficult to make them so."

What I get from this is, unless its already here in Canada its not going to be allowed in.
Canada Safety Standards are the reason why many of these vehicles are not here. Like the RS, it would need to go through all the testing and no one is going to fund that.

Good to know, chances are I won't be able to get a newer Hilux diesel then, but I might be able to get a diesel 4Runner

Hello everyone. Ive been trying to bring this vehicle from Mexico. It is quite hard to do so because of the safety standards and environmental standards as well. Canada has some heavy restrictions towards newer vehicles starting from 2006 (i believe). And yes, it is way cheaper. but for a $18000 dollar vehicle, there is about $5000 in fees.

I came across what I think is the catch here, you have to be a Mexican citizen of some sort in order to purchase a vehicle in Mexico. So presumably you'd have to work with someone from Mexico in order to do this (I might have a way to do that, but we'll see).

There aren't many motorbikes that fits into ICBC's lowest category. (110cc or lower)

Suzuki needs to bring AX110 into Canada.
Looks like they're selling it for approx $1,000 in Mexico, since Mexican prices are a little more marked up than Canadian market, if they could sell this bike in Canada for like $950 or even $900, it might do well since it's more practical than scooter depending on how you look at it.

No you don't.

Well, not if you want a quality VW experience. I've driven a Mexican built VW, and it's nothing like driving a German built example. Wind noise on the mexi-bug is extreme, because it's coming in every possible spot. It's also swing axle rear end, so doesn't handle as well as a 69+ model here.
