RCMP at TD Bank in Newton in a Bank Standoff with Robber

You hear of bank robbery's all the time but rarely do you hear of hostage situation's these days. Hopefully everything goes smoothly for the customer's inside.

Police surround Surrey, B.C. bank after reports of robbery | CTV News

Quote:
SURREY, B.C. - Police have surrounded a bank in Surrey, B.C., after receiving multiple calls at about 8:30 a.m. about a robbery in progress.

RCMP say initial reports were the building had been evacuated of all staff and customers when officers arrived at the bank on 72nd Avenue in the Newton area of Surrey.

Witnesses say police have surrounded a TD Canada Trust branch at the corner of a shopping

An employee at a nearby store says 15 to 20 police cars have been stationed outside the bank since before she arrived at work.

The woman who did not wish to give her name says officers came by her store and told her to stay away from the area.

Another employee at a business about a block from the bank says police would not allow her to enter her workplace and that she went in through a back door

Not a hostage situation if no one is being held hostage...

don't think there was ever a hostage
apparently they're looking for the man, who may be armed

if true
how the hell did he get out of the bank

Misleading topic title, please change it.

There's no indication of any hostages involved, for all we know it could be some nutbar with a sharpened stick by himself in the bank refusing to come out.

There's a story of a summary going around, I'm pretty sure some people on here gotten it from friends/fam as well. I'd post it but I don't want to mention names of the people that work there

If the story is true, basically the workers outsmarted the robber and trapped him in in a room while they escaped with the customers, he's the only one in the building now

It's actually very common. Most robberies do not get on the news because the banks do not want bad publicity. Tellers are forced to hand over any money a robber tells them to give them, most write it down and hand it quietly to the teller. If the teller makes a scene they'll get fired lol.

interesting...but those must be like small time robberies in small banks with no security right?

but for the most part i meant like, broad day light, gun-toting style type of bank robbery...that just doesn't happen anymore, at least in recent memory.

I don't think heat style movie hostage bank robberies happen too often in real life.

But banks still get robbed all the time. It usually makes the news in Kelowna because we have less interesting news. Usually suspect shows or says he has a gun and demands $, teller hands them the money and off the suspect goes.

I was told there's a bank robbery a day in the Lower Mainland.

Source: Cops, during a ride along when the radio reported a bank robbery.
