Road trip to California, where you can ride the waves at the beach and hit up six flags, Disneyland and universal studios. Or road trip east to wonderland Niagra falls and on the way there and back camp at the national parks map out where you gonna camp maybe call and reserve.

5K? There's lots you could do for 5k.

Check out Tofino. Banff. Oregon. I could go on forever but thats a good size budget if there is no air travel involved.

I've never fully priced these out so could be OT, but I'd like to take a train trip one day: https://www.rockymountaineer.com/en_US/

Depends on what kinds of things you're family is interested in. You could look for last minute cruise deals if that's your kind of thing? Or fly out to Cedar Point if you like roller coasters.

Victoria is cheap, far less than 5k to go there for a week unless you like to blow a lot on meals and hotels.

5k is A LOT of money.

I personally would NOT go to LA as it's super far. Let me rephrase, San Fran is ok, all the way to santa barbra is a bit too far of a drive.

the only catch is the drive from Portland to Nor Cal is a bit cold and it might snow. Lastly, San Fran is a COLD and windy city so d dress warmly.

What's the age group for the "family of 5"? Kids, teens, elderly, etc. would all require completely different type of activities.

There is more to the Island than Victoria. Why not go skiing at Mount Washington for a few day and then check out the rest of the Island. Goats on the roof and cathedral grove are something to see.
